Re: Europe Desperate for more revenue, shoots self in foot.
So get this. Google has two tiers of 'advertising'. Paid links and free links. (Not talking the parent company I am talking the website).
There is profits only off paid links being actually clicked. Otherwise Google makes pretty much nothing. Now as a part of its free services Google promotes news services as part of your search. Some news services can pay for promoting their website.
Google makes a decent amount of cash with paid links. However their business model is destroyed if they get hurt on their paid links. Enter France and Germany.
These nations want to recoup some of this money and send it to prefferred news services (Germany) or to spend as a tax source (France).
Google is responding by saying they will be forced to end ALL searches resulting in a French (or German presumably for media sites) website. This would not end with Google for Bing, Yahoo, AOL, and many other search engines would quickly follow suit.
France reacted badly to this news of course "A company cannot be allowed to make threats to a Democratically voted in Government". This I find funny cause it shows how stupid the man making the quote is about business. This is not a threat, this is a reaction to a danger.
And the outcome will be no French websites will see new international business. They won't show up on searches. French game developers will have no choice but to partner outside their nation and advertise through their partners.
Tourist websites from France will not see many hits and the French people will have a hard time looking up resteraunts, parlors, brothels, concert info, and much much more. The net effect will be a serious drop in the French economy which is already broken (rich fleeing in record numbers).
Not only will it fail to generate revenue it will damage their economy. Socialists just don't get it.
Kemp currently not being responded to until he makes CONCISE posts.
Avogardo and Noir ignored by me for life so people know why I do not respond to them. (Informational)
