We have though about this a couple of times. It has it's advantages but we do want to stimulate team play as well.

Self Sufficient. Players who play on their own within a family.
Merge resourcing and economy researches,
Disable intra-fam planet passing or at least fix the inactive tag so its no longer abusable to hell as it is now
SS becomes more viable without sacrificing team play
Nice I like the sound of it. So why cant the powers that be make it happen?
So when some dirt bags start raping the SS fam....? what then?
Until the decision comes down that we want to individualize IC, I would support stimulating family play over creating an SS family. In the end the benefits of creating an SS family does not away to cons, as which Forever already stated one.
SS means you're dead meat, a Fam full of SS vs a fully working Fam? = easy planets for the Fam working together and a huge whine thread by the "we're all SS, how come you're taking our planets" Fam.
No I don't, I've SS'd many a time and love it, I just don't think it'll work in a "normal" Galaxy.
Are you admitting then, Forever, that an SS is a hindrance to their family as a whole?
If so... would a family working team really want an SS on their team? Wouldn't this help the team players by increasing teamwork... while at the same time forcing SS players to stand up on their own merits, rather than rely on their team, which is playing team strategy, to survive?
No I am saying a Fam of SS in a normal galaxy would get spanked, I thought that's what this thread was about.
