Re: Dutch Elections

Well, there is no perfect system. You either have a coalition government with multiple parties, or you have the US situation where there's only 2 serious options.
Just because you are in a small party, does not mean you have no influence, and just because you have to work with/under someone from a bigger party doesn't mean you have no voice in a matter.

As shown in the last years, even a political party with 2 or 3 seats can significantly influence policy.

Re: Dutch Elections

"The factors that made it difficult i.m.o.  where:
-no long democratic tradition (esp Prussia)
-no trust or understandin' in democracy
-econ difficulties
-national humiliation
-lack o' education on th' voters side
-th' pressure o' th' soviets
-disappointed vets
-distrust betwixt th' large political factions
-...could go on"

an' most likely ye be right with that.  Pretty sure it were bein' not only one thin' that made it fail.

The question is just if a stable goverment would had been able t' change a couple o' points from th' list above.  But that i dern't know.

Anyways, its not really th' topic here.

Would thar be any significant changes in th' outcome o' th' election in th' netherlan' if thar would be somethin' like a 5% clause?

Re: Dutch Elections

True, its offtopic.

Parties try harder because of the tough competition.

Often extremes get a chance to lead before they grow too large (and voters get dissapointed in them)
the presumed stabillity often means more chances to be corrupt and instabillity behind doors.

So yes i.m.o.
