This games needs new players to play this game. But some of the old players teach them bad ways of actually playing the role they have chosen to play. Instead of teaching them how to actually play the role they have chosen to play correctly.
And then people want to bitch and complain that they are doing it all wrong not taking into account that maybe that person got the wrong information to start with. Teach that player the correct way of playing their role. Who gives a damn if they learn to be better than you? That just means you did a wonderful job of teaching them how to play.

If you do not know the role that well yourself, then tell them where they can find the forums that can best help them out. You guys know who are the best of the best here, it definitely is not the new person that just comes into the game.

That way the person might actually want to stay and play the game longer than a few rounds and then quit. It would also be more helpful if the best of the best would start putting up more guides and updating them also. I liked the ones that Riddler did even if I didn't understand half of what he was saying cuz I personally don't attack. The one that Kollop did was also great even though I have learned a few tricks now to make it even better for me as a pop banker.

I have found only a few great People in this game, no matter what role I personally play, except an attacker role, that has told me what I am doing wrong and right in this game. And I would like to thank THEM for taking the time and energy to explain why and how they think it will work right for me.

Don't get all upset when people ask you questions about why you did that a certain way! That is how some of us learn, by asking lots of questions so they can understand it better!!!

Just my thoughts since I am a new player to this game and from the beginning was told wrong information on how to play by some of the old players in the familes I was in.

Life is to short to not live everyday like its your last.

you are absolutely right
part of the problem is drafting really, if you have a crew of 5 good players in your fam, you don't need the lesser players.
if you have a crew of 3 good players, the others are more important, and the good players that can teach are more spread over other fams.

Dixie, You will find that a lot of players have been taught how to play incorrectly,  and actually you will find that your teacher is practically playing your account for you.  This is because people trust in the IC system rather then the individuals.  Players who are great these days are not great, just active.  You need to find yourself some good mentors who are able to let you learn the game your way and provide you with answers to your questions.  I suggest you try to avoid using the family bank system while you are learning and try instead teaming up with another or trading your goods via the market or by setting up deals with your fam mates.  I would be honoured to answer any of your questions, just drop me a message (The Zodiac Killer, 6558)

First and foremost, thanks Dixie, it's been an honor to try and correct all that wrong info you were fed smile

Second, I think PW should become the real training galaxy. To this end, it should be kept apart from MW. Play in one and you cant play in the other. This will prevent PW from becoming an outlet for all the experienced players. If necessary, open another 'real' galaxy so those players can play 2 galaxies at a time if they are so inclined, but make sure that if you're in PW, you cant play anywhere else. Then, allow 2 or 3 experienced players to be drafted into PW fams together as tutors. This drafting shouldnt be done through VIPs but by applying for a tutor position in PW with the mods. If tutors do well they can remain in PW, if they are just there to screw around, they get kicked out after one round. Also, make PW 'stay in fam' for 3 consecutive rounds at a time to provide some continuity. This would make PW the learning galaxy Virgo never was. smile

Ohhhh you should have seen the first post I made on IC, and how everyone tore me a new hole.  You could probably ask Warsie that sad sordid details to that fiasco.

Still, I stand by the Underdogs of the universe.  Which namely is the new players to IC.  Play your style, it never hurts.  You learn the ins and outs as time goes by.  Or at least learn from the people who are willing to teach.  Instead of attempting to belittle the newbies.  Like some who will rename nameless, mostly because he went around by the tag of Nameless.  He's got a name, along with twenty others he's used in the last six years?

I'm sure the post is on someone's hard drive.  It was an inspirational piece for new players, just like me, who were new to the game.  I basically called for revolution with the new players to play as they see fit.  Most of the veterans disagreed, in most vehement terms in both forums and in game.  Still it was a rousing speach.  One of my better more "Optimistic" pieces I had ever written in Imperial Conflicts.  Sad it's just gone.  Was under my old name Keyorion.  I had a lot of hate mail back then. A lot of hate mail, and ingame invasions and attacks.  Most tried to put me in my place.  Which only angered me more and more until I was "kindly" invited into Anzac for a single round.

Now i'm an old codger, battle worn, and poltically forum armored.  I cut my teeth in the game and in these forums, that I just don't give a damn.  Much like that Walter from Jeff Dunham show. 

I give a damn.

Actually I have to agree with Dixie up above.  And i've had conversations with players not only from this site, but from other game sites on the net.  You either, treat the new players with respect, and show them how the game works, and what to expect, or you can expect a game to die out.  It's that simple.  Some of you are very easy to get along with, and it shows.  Some of you arn't so easy to get along with and it shows.  Now those who are more willing to teach, show more respect, and are easy to play with, your going to have one great game, and the funnest rounds that you'll ever have known.

Those that are doing nothing more than causing pain and heartache, and making the game more miserable to newcomers...your going to have an empty round, with less and less players joining in.  I remember seeing the arguement, "It's called Imperial Conflicts, not Imperial United Nations".  Yah. That was one of those off the cuff remarks made by some, that turned some of the new players WAY off of the game.

I've already seen some online games die in the last seven years.  Mostly because of the "veteran" players inability to open up their arms to new players and welcome them in to the community.

Whether Imperial Conflicts grows or dies, is pretty much up to all of you.

I pretty much don't play anymore, because, even after so many years of playing, I still got a lot of shit thrown in my face for not being a cut throat player that ground others into the ground while playing.  I wasn't there to rip the throats out of those players that couldn't hold their own.  I was there to help give inspiration to new players.  Sadly, my inspiration never blossomed.  Because looking at the number of players now, compared to what once was...it's not looking to good.

....then again...some of you did have half a dozen empires, under multiple accounts, which was strictly ILLEGAL within the games Rules to begin with, maybe there wasn't really that many players to begin with.

and yes, I do still see some of those forum posters who actually broke the rules, still playing.  I thought they were supposed to receive "Perma-ban"?  Doesn't look to perma to me.
