But seriously, me and a friend are going biking around holland in a few weeks.
Need some input from you dutchies! big_smile
Ok so, considering we wish to stay mostly in hostels (cost-money spent on hotel means less on weed/food), what cities in the northern/western side of holland would be best to visit?
I mean we realistically would be looking for some pretty sweet sights and a relaxed chilled atmosphere. Neither of us speak dutch which may pose a problem in some places but im going to assume, from no valid reasoning, that almost all dutchies are internet nerds that speak english big_smile
Plus what cities/towns are cheaper to stay/eat/smoke at than Amsterdam/Rotterdam?

Utrecht!

We have a beautiful city center here, very nice parks to visit and some fun musea if you're into that sort of thing, as well as plenty nice clubs and bars.


A few nice places to visit:
- De "Dom", the famous churchtower.
- Oudaen, a house (also known as "Stadskasteel", or city castle in English) from the period between 12-14th century. There are several more of these, but this one is by far in the best condition.
- De Winkel van Sinkel, a famous shop with very nice architecture.
- The Moneymuseum and the Dutch Royal Mint, both located in the same beautiful building.
- Wilhelminapark
- Just the city center in general, there's some nice architecture to be found.


Nice restaurants:
- I've heard good things about "De Thai", along de oudegracht.
- There's an Indian place close to the Mariaplaats that's quite nice, although I forget it's name.
- Eetcaf

According to all our research, the bans never truly went into effect as of immediately, and its only effecting the south first.. As far as I'm aware its still legal to buy as a tourist without needing a pass. - I bloody hope this is the case too! sad

But yeah Utrecht was definitely on our list of places to visit, along with Harlem and its huuuge forest next to it! Gonna go smoke a few while riding around the forests.. Cant wait!
Im glad most of the people over there speak English - but im currently trying to learn a few Dutch sentences to get me in with the ladies ;D

If the weather is good one of the places near the beach is nice. Zandvoort, Bloemendaal, Katwijk, Noordwijk, etc.
Haarlem and Leiden (student city) are nice choices!

Also, Rotterdam is pretty good. The old harbors are fun to stay around, and pretty decent architecture around if you enjoy that kind of stuff. From thursday to saterday, most bars and clubs are open till 5 or 6.
