Re: Academic Charlatans: Need for Regulation

1. Luce Irigaray
2. Judith Butler
3. Sheila Jeffreys
4. Slavoj Zizek
5. Homi Bhabha
6. Jacques Derrida
7. Jacques Lacan

People like this demonstrate the importance of regulating academia. Obscurantists and lunatics should not be allowed tenure at prestigious academic universities, nor permitted to corrupt the youth with their confused gibberish.

Thoughts?

Re: Academic Charlatans: Need for Regulation

They corrupt the youth with confused gibberish, causing the youth to protest for misguided reasons.

Prove said gibberish claim!

Re: Academic Charlatans: Need for Regulation

For example. Luce Irigaray is a radical feminist who said that "E=MC2 is sexed." She's also a psychoanalyst, which has been thoroughly disproven like astrology. I mean, imagine a prestigious university having an astrology department! Normally, that would embarrass it.

Re: Academic Charlatans: Need for Regulation

why jacques derrida?

Re: Academic Charlatans: Need for Regulation

And the rest?  I'm obviously not one on philosophy, but a blanket "these people suck" is sort of ridiculous.

Oh, and Zizek has a good-looking wife despite looking like he was hit by a freight train, so your argument is invalid.

Re: Academic Charlatans: Need for Regulation

For once, I'm in agreement with Justinian - this stuff is nonsense and has no place in universities. But i would go further and include theology, homeopathy, and all other imaginary nonsense peddled by the deluded or fraudulent.

Re: Academic Charlatans: Need for Regulation

Theology is real, even if one is an athiest.

Re: Academic Charlatans: Need for Regulation

They're not as prestigious anymore as they think/say they are.

Plenty of academic work is great. It's honest and advances the collective knowledge of mankind. Such work, however, is NOT required to advance to any level of academic success, sometimes even in fields of science.

Re: Academic Charlatans: Need for Regulation

Scientists should be open-minded and tolerate some strange ideas. Even those add, positiv or negativ, to the global scientific development.
