Apparently in Norway a human life is worth 99.5 days

In the USA there are three outcomes: Death Sentence, a conviction so long as to see him die of old age in prison, or a mental hospital.

Europe sucks.

That website has misunderstood the verdict tho, its not 21 years maximum, it can actually be as much as life in prison maximum.

this might be guess but i think in norway its a sentence that can be life sentence but its reviewable after so many years to see if the person has reformed like they have in the US criminal system for certain felonies.  noir's mommy is a judge so he should know the laws there hopefully

however, he did laugh at me once when i asked him if norway had the death sentence.  they also probably have low crime rate because less immigration etc

p.s. i'm very disappointed in this thread after reading the topic and thinking it was going to be about abortion or something more interesting.

It's an Einstein thread. Of course it is disappointing.
Norway's crime rate is probably low as for the last decade it has been the wealthiest per capita. Minimum wage is about $40000 a year and that's just unemployment benefits. Plus most of the population live in small towns. I've stayed in North Carolina and Arizona in parts where people don't lock their doors. Same thing, small towns. Big city, more crime.

The 21 years gets reviewed every 5 if I read correctly. Obviously the sentence seems less than 'life without parole' but it will still be life.

If I remember correctly from the coverage a long time ago, 21 years is the maximum sentence that can be handed out at one time and then as mentioned it keeps getting reviewed.

There's a much greater focus on rehabilitation in Scandinavia from what I understand though obviously in this case Brevik is beyond that point.

in 1949 Norway was so gung ho to execute Nazis that it sentenced them to die on the theory that they violated laws that WOULD HAVE BEEN PASSED if the Nazis hadn't invaded. And then they convicted them and shot them.

If in 60 years you are so soft that shooting 77 kids in broad daylight gets life with parole, I have no confidence your government will not further decline to the point where he can get out.  Your fellow Europeans across the water let the Lockerbie bomber out.

The core joke of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is that of course no civilization would develop personal computers with instant remote database recovery, and then waste this technology to find good drinks.
