Meija, the bug of recieving reports from other empires has been around for ages. Have a look at the common bugs sticky smile

It happened to me once and I thought I was being cheated, after doing some investigations I found out what happened:

an enemy empire opped my figs (Destroy Units op) or just runned them in a share, can't know whats the case because I didnt notice if they were circle numbers or not, then right after, that empire deleted from the round, so any report about his attacks/ops was removed from my recent reports and from the family news, and it appeared like my units were just vanished.

So don't worry, they did not disband and you were not cheated, some pissed off player attacked you, and right after he deleted
