Re: Sandwich tricks?

Re: Sandwich tricks?

whatever it is that is making your sanga saggy put in a separate container smile

Re: Sandwich tricks?

Your humidity is high?

Anyhow.... veggies and spreads (mayo, mustard, ketchup, etc) on top, meats on bottom should help some.

Placing food in a cool place helps

Creating food in a low humidity environment helps

My peanuty butter and jelly sandwhiches used to do this a lot also til I changed brands on everything... something had to much moisture...

Re: Sandwich tricks?

dont use lettuce in sandwich or moisture will get through.  sub rolls usually last better than bread.  if you have a fridge at work then obviously use that.  one of those cooler fridge packs rather than brown bags usually keeps stuff fresh

Re: Sandwich tricks?

I place it in a cooler with ice pack normally its just bread meat miracle whip and cheese.   I may try a sub type instead of bread that hopefully will hold up better

Re: Sandwich tricks?

try wrapping paper towels around the icepack, putting the miracle whip on the meat and cheese and not the bread, and wrapping the sandwich in a paper towel or wax paper not plastic

if that doesnt work move to arizona so ambient humidity is lower and you won't be stowing all that moisture in the cooler when you pack it

Re: Sandwich tricks?

yeah it's the ice pack lowering temps in your cooler to the point water condenses into the bread
wrap the ice pack with something absorbent
and the sandwich in somehting breathable like  a paper towel not plastic

Re: Sandwich tricks?

Deepfreeze your bread, then in the morning take bread out the freezer, don't thaw it. Put on the cheese, veg condiments of choice. Finish it off and put it in a plastic bag. Keep cool.

Come lunch time your bread will have thawed and won't be stale. Soggy bottoms... Well avoid moisture or dry the veggies really thoroughly after washing.

Re: Sandwich tricks?

all these things may work as well, i prefer just flipping the sandwich over midway through the day

Re: Sandwich tricks?

in my experience the moisture from condiments like mayo or ketchup or mustard are not bad, but vegetables can make bread very soggy

pack your vegetables separately from your sandwich and put them on last minute, or use some kind of barrier between the vegetables and the bread. maybe meat would work, or maybe butter

Re: Sandwich tricks?

Mayonaise actually works pretty well as a barrier since it's so fatty. I always give toasted hamburger buns a mayo coating to keep them from getting soggy.

Re: Sandwich tricks?

All that ends up doing making both sides semi stale/soggy. Imho you're then only fighting symptoms instead of preventing them altogether.

This is serious business and we need to tackle the problem head on and pro-actively!
