I have been following this keenly, as I always do when cases like this are in the news.

Is he really innocent? Obviously!
He had a good lawyer. Look at the OJ Simpson case; if you have a good lawyer even a shadow of doubt could be in your favour.
The rich and the powerful are always innocent; Evidence or not, he is a rich singer and thats enough to prove his innocence.

Besides it's a well known fact that child pornography is only of interest to the poor and lowly.

"So, it's defeat for you, is it? Someday I must meet a similar fate..."

It was a very f'd up case, half her family said it wasn't her on the tapes and the other half said it was.

And R Kelly said it wasn't him on the tapes either.

But 10:1 they get together and do a "remake" of what they never did before, for sale online.

The core joke of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is that of course no civilization would develop personal computers with instant remote database recovery, and then waste this technology to find good drinks.
Steve Jobs has ruined this joke.

Or maybe there is no sinister rich man's law and that he is actually just innocent? According to the link you gave the girl who was alleged to be in the video denied it was her, and the prosecution star witness was a thief. I have read elsewhere that members of the girl's family deny that it is the girl and R Kelly denies that it is him. All in all it doesn't seem like there was very much evidence to convict him.

Is it unusual for a victim os sexual abuse/rape to deny everything? No.

Does R-Kelly and the video man share a "dark spot"? Depends on if you believe the electronically altered video theory the  Defence put forwards.

All in all I think there is more tilt towards guilty than innocent. I also think, personally, that a poorer man would not have shared R Kelly's fate.

Disregarding the question wether he's actually guilty or not, I'm sure you're right Fokker. A poor man's case would have had a different outcome.. Juries detest pedophiles, so in doubt, they're more liktly to find them guilty...

There is no proof that the girl in the tape was actually underage - as the alleged person denied it being herself.

Also, I don't see where consensual sex turns into being called "rape".  That is too extreme for me to agree with an argument calling this rape or even sexual abuse (we don't know the persons age in the tape).

I don't condone manipulating minors, but terminology means everything in an argument.  There are too many ifs in this case; and you are only allowed to make judgement as a jury member without a reasonable doubt for a guilty plea.  With both people alleged being in the tape deny it, right there is enough to be reasonable doubt for even the poorest of the poor.  You don't know if it's really an underage girl.



On a side note, the jury was made to watch the tape.  It is one of those things that gets iffy for me.  Theres a room full of people watching what they believe to be child pornography and it is replayed time and again to "review".  That itself should be a discussion too!
