Re: How to improve politics forum
Recently there's been excessive trolling, insult, harassment, etc.. There's a need to find a way to keep Politics more civil. Perhpas one reason discussions devolve to such base-levels is that posters don't get feedback from the community as a whole as to whether or not their post is liked or disliked.
One idea, then, could be a system where people can click a little thumb up or thumb down icon next to each post to express their like / dislike of the post, and the results (how many dislikes or likes there are) could be shown next the post as well.
A reputation rating of a poster, where other posters (or perhaps only mods) can rate the reputation of a poster. Might also help. This reputation rating can be next to or under the poster's nick in their profile / next to or under their nick in their posts.
The following idea could be implemented without editing or adding code to the forum software: On the first page in a thread, if a mod is interested in the topic of that thread, a mod could make a post stating that he or she will be keeping 'score' in this thread. In this post, the mod would list and over the course of the discussion keep updating a list of names of those who participate in the discussion / debate and their 'score' next to each name. Mods could edit this regularly to record points attributed for a poster's good arguments. Alternatively, a post could also record warnings attributed to each poster for insults or trolling, and deduct points for such behavior.
Other ideas?
