Re: America: Evil Empire

The United States of America was not intended to be a nation-state like Germany or France are today. That is why the members of the federation are called "states" and not "provinces." A province is a division of a state, and the states would be called provinces if our founders intended us to be a nation-state. In a federation, the member states are largely sovereign, but they hand over some sovereignty to the federal government. As a matter of fact, US states were largely independent up until the 1930s. And until 1861, states could theoretically leave the federation.

But today, the people living in the US identify themselves as "American," and the federal government is only called such as a matter of convention. As citizens, we have been duped in to displaying our patriotism to the federal government, and we identify ourselves as "American" rather than "Texan" or "Floridan." Moreover, senators are no longer appointed by their state to represent their state, but are directly elected (defeating the purpose of federalism).

The federal government has become an evil empire that has subjugated the states in to provinces. I think the federal government should be substantially cut down to serve a more limited role. Let the states act independently and be responsible for the majority of public services. If a state wants to be a welfare state or ruthlessly libertarian, then they should be permitted to be so.

Re: America: Evil Empire

no, you should serve me

The core joke of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is that of course no civilization would develop personal computers with instant remote database recovery, and then waste this technology to find good drinks.
Steve Jobs has ruined this joke.

Re: America: Evil Empire

*shoots Chris, aims gun at Justinian* No... you shall serve me and call me master.

Everything bad in the economy is now Obama's fault. Every job lost, all the debt, all the lost retirement funds. All Obama. Are you happy now? We all get to blame Obama!

Give me liberty or give me death!

Re: America: Evil Empire

Shoots Justinian three times in the gut.

Now to get a doctor you need to offer to serve me, then the pain will stop. Of course you can say no but the next bullet is made of balsa wood.

Re: America: Evil Empire

Yup. We live in a tyrannical state whose only authority is driven by the majority of the voting populace on welfare who vote 100% of the time to increase their welfare income.

You can bomb foreign nations and rape our freedoms. Just keep that welfare funding increasing and you're gold.

Aren't you all about "might makes right-real politik-Machiavellian" Justi?

Re: America: Evil Empire

ARF,

Yeah. That's why I don't want anyone to have too much power.

Re: America: Evil Empire

Then you can hardly moan like a baby when someone else is doing exactly what you espouse. Nut up.

Re: America: Evil Empire

Hmm...I don't know about the rest of the country, but here in the midwest, we take great offense if you call us from another state. I might be an american, but it chaps my Missouri ass every day that I live in Kansas.

Arby: A very strict mod, reminds me of a fat redneck who drives a truck around all day with a beer in one hand. I hated this guy at the start, however, I played a round in PW with him where he went as an anonymous player. Our fam got smashed up and everyone pretty much left. Arby stayed around and helped out the remaining family. At the end of the round he revealed himself.... My views on him have changed since. Your a good guy.....

We despise Californians in Oregon,

If I move elsewhere and run for office I would be "that transplant immigrant from Oregon"

Re: America: Evil Empire

ARF,

No, I can complain all I want. It just means that violence might be the remedy for the problems I'm complaining about.

Arby3,

LOL. I think people in the South (and Missouri) have a stronger state identity, but that is much less true outside that region.

Re: America: Evil Empire

State side is pretty relaxed here in the Midwest

Re: America: Evil Empire

Flint,

When I lived in WA, they also disliked Californians, lol. Moreover, they disliked them more than the Canadians who visited them from BC. Although, they didn't really mind the Canadians that much.

Re: America: Evil Empire

"Although, they didn't really mind the Canadians that much."

Cuz the Canadians hand out spliffs rolled in old Canadian dollar bills as tips.

Re: America: Evil Empire

United States means less internal war and cheaper large projects. Else it would have been a constant battlefield like Europe in WW1. I'm not happy about the current leadership allright but overall I think its a good project. I only wish the EU worked that way.

Re: America: Evil Empire

...What? The United States functioned just fine as a federation of states long before Europe put genocide on hold. It's a shame that the USA isn't one today. We wouldn't have federal shitheads taxing working people to pay for [clucking] cowboy poetry festivals. Mandating what your state should think about abortion. etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc. Tyranny is bad in any form.
