I'm not excusing the pedophile scandal in the Church. Everyone involved should be locked up.

And I don't mean to downplay it, either. But it's an issue of corrupt douche bags covering up crimes. The Church does not condone their behavior. If you want to make the argument that the Church has been too hush about it and not proactive enough, I'll tend to agree. But the Church isn't looking the other way when all sorts of systemic injustices go on, as they do today in many Middle Eastern nations.

I'm not a big fan of the church, but I can certainly find more objectionable behavior going on in predominantly Islamic states than Christian states at the moment. It's often done not only without objections by Muslim leadership, but often with claims of authority in Muslim law.

im confused.  somehow the fact that a relatively few catholic priests have raped/molested boys makes it ok for an entire religion to condone stoning women who were raped?  also, i ve seen no one condoning the priests' actions.  also, i'll pay 100k to see some liberal woman in US to go to the middle east in regular clothing and preach about her principles and see if she can survive

IA: You know that a majority of Muslims do not live in the middle east right? In fact it is only 1/5 that live in the middle-east / north Africa or what the US would probably term as the "trouble areas." I also doubt that a majority of them think as you stated (even if it is Noam Chomsky's views) more like the select few who happen to have the power at the moment. Or possibly only those who manage to get air time on an international stage, possibly because they say sensationalist things like "lets tear down the pyramids"

The problem with people like Einstein worried about the pyramids is that it buries the lead.

The fact is that Egyptians did elect both a parliament and a president who don't believe in democratic principles but theocracy based on Sharia. They're using the democratic process to get elected, but they're no champions of democratic processes.
