Re: To the Space: the Story writers.

If any of you are still using this forum, I have been resisting the urge to rewrite the first space story for a while, but now I have given in. If any would like to join me feel free. I also would like anything anyone might have saved from the first two stories.

Then I lived.

Re: To the Space: the Story writers.

I remember reading a bit of the story.  Was it about the IC universe: about Quantam, Partaxian, etc...?

Re: To the Space: the Story writers.

No that was player rebellion, this was when the earth had been destroyed and the remnants of humanity had to try to survive.

keep it up! I miss you nerds. neutral

Re: To the Space: the Story writers.

probably my most favourite space books were the Stainless Steel Rat ones, they were a fun read, I also really liked a series about German Soldiers in WWII (I cannot for the life of me remember the Name of them hmm I think I need to visit the Library this week lol) who went around stealing schnaps and doing the impossible etc.. kinda like the Rat wink.

Re: To the Space: the Story writers.

Ahh, yes, Player Rebellion....I remember.

Was that an official Stephan-sanctioned account of the IC universe?  I think this game needs some sort of official mythology, sanctioned, and sponsored by Stephan and the IC Mod community.

Re: To the Space: the Story writers.

Hi!

What, there's a new Space?

*reads*

Wait, a rewrite?

You could, but there are some choices I would have done differently >_>

Then by all means Algebra, go right ahead smile. I'll delete the post that has your part and you are free to do as you like.

Re: To the Space: the Story writers.

What's a Terranova?

By the way, I'm keeping my part of the story in a Google Docs document.

Re: To the Space: the Story writers.

Ok no worries. I'm keeping to the original story line for as long as I can until things just get too silly smile. I've just written my part on my laptop but I don't have Internet until I get back home in 12 hours, I'll post it then. Also I will be scaling back the size of enemy ships by a factor of ten, because by the original story a Colta was 100km long and wasn't really addressed properly and the world ship was on the order of 100,000km. tongue I always though that was a bit silly...

Re: To the Space: the Story writers.

It was? I remember them being smaller.

I'll be able to write on my flight tomorrow; work's been busy this week.

Re: To the Space: the Story writers.

The original story said 100 times the size of the Heleriya and then the next size up was a thousand times bigger then that.

Re: To the Space: the Story writers.

We had a debate over whether it was length or volume that was being described. I think we said volume, but I might be crazy.

In any case, volume makes more sense.

Re: To the Space: the Story writers.

This is a rough design for a Colta warship.

Colta warship.

Elongated oval shape.
Ten kilometers long.
Two and a half kilometers wide.
One thousand, seven hundred and fifty meters tall.

24 anti-proton beam emitters 12 spaced 500 meters apart in the middle 6 kilometers of each side.
12 missile bays with a cluster of 8 on top of the ship and 4 on the bottom.
Anti-fighter emplacements spaced around each of the above weapons coupled with flak dispensers. A Colta has a fighter wing containing 100 fighters each.
5 plasma cannons on each side used primarily for short range combat.

Re: To the Space: the Story writers.

That's a capital ship. You're insisting on length and not volume or cross-sectional area? Picture this, then. Suppose you have two cubes, one 1 cm on a side and the other 10 cm on a side. How much larger does the 10 cm cube _really_ look?

Re: To the Space: the Story writers.

Then how big would you suggest? The Kallum have a very large industrial capacity so ship sizes would be larger then humans. It needs to be big enough to instil fear into anyone but small enough to be believable that it's just a warship.

Then I lived.

Re: To the Space: the Story writers.

The Heleriya's about one kilometer long. A five-kilometer long Colta would be more than sufficient to get the point across. Also, a five-kilometer-long Colta would have somewhere between 100 and 150 times the displacement and would require 100 to 150 times the amount of resources, putting it on the high end of the believable spectrum.

If you were to go for a 2.5 kilometer Colta, it would be perceptibly large enough to make any starship captain tremble. It would also have somewhere between 12 and 18 times the Heleriya's displacement, making it a more balanced foe.

Re: To the Space: the Story writers.

Ok we'll just halve those measurements then, to five kilometers long. Remember a Colta is their main ship and only a few larger ones are being used by the Kallum.

Re: To the Space: the Story writers.

I can't actually remember, so I will ask.

The Colta-class vessels carry a fighter wing of 100. Are they actually designated as carriers? For all I know I could be conflating them with the Yoltoc, which I seem to remember are smaller...?

Re: To the Space: the Story writers.

this is badass guys, loving it atm smile

Re: To the Space: the Story writers.

Yeah the Yoltoc are smaller but are designed as a carrier. They can carry 250 fighters but lack the heavy weaponry of a Colta. Numbers can change however, so we'll tweak it until we're comfortable. I won't have my next part up until tomorrow sometime.

And thank you forever, it is fun to write and read.

Re: To the Space: the Story writers.

yeah well I wish I could write as well as both of you, do you guys have any other projects like this on other sites?

I had feared you left again... So I slightly panicked and bumped the old RPs. Which I'd like to get back up and running, if time permits on your end?
