if you have to go with just 1 city, you can't look beyond amsterdam.

good shopping, good sightseeing, all in walking distance from amsterdam central station. (the busiest shopping area in the netherlands starts at like 500 meters from the train station)



the only restaurant i remember eating at in amsterdam is a greek restaurant that was pretty good.
dont recall the name, but if you come from amsterdam central station, you cross the bridge, take a right turn, turn left and directly right again.
i'm sure there are plenty other options though.

i've been to maastricht, its not impressive, in fact, it's absolute crap.
den bosch is brabant, so can't do anything other than suck.

and haarlem, i think their town hall is pretty, but you don't travel somewhere for 1 pretty building.

amsterdam has so many things going for it.
the shopping is great, there are plenty of things to do, and its very easy to reach.

I find it highly unlikely that any dutchy will try to get you high while you are in Amsterdam. Unless if you are actually inside of a coffee shop where you can buy them. At which point you can just ask yourself whether it was him or you who wanted to get you high.

I am biased because I live in Amsterdam, but I agree with Primo! It is the most complete city if you want to visit something. smile

Walking the streets of amsterdam I could have flew home as a drug mule. Ive never been blatantly bombarded by such a massive amount of ppl trying to sell me drugs there, it was crazy! tongue

Speaking of which, they nearly didnt let me back into Australia since they found methaphetamines on my mobile and wallet haha! Twas a nice city though... Though I wouldnt do the walk through the Red light district during the day again hmm

My favorite city in Holland is Utrecht smile Its a gorgeous little city, kinda like a mini-amsterdam with it's shops along the waterfront too, and much calmer, friendlier and without all the pushers smile

When speaking your mind, it is of utmost importance to keep using it !

basically I'm looking for a nice city to take a girl to, so lots of need for cool places that I happen to know off the cuff and no need for local whores.

And with that I mean no need forcasted, we all know that even if the girl in question would be willin gto come with me I will screw up horribly and end up with the whores, but eh I've always appreciated the A for effort concept smile.

Amsterdam is just more to do and you can easily avoid the pushers and or local whores if you don't want that element. There are obviously other smaller cities that more or less offer the same, but I don't know them well enough to guarantee they have what you are looking for.

I'd say look some stuff up on google. I bet there are plenty of websites that give nice summaries as to what you can do where in the Netherlands.
