For the first 5 ticks of joining a family you are allowed to change your empire name (an option that can be used only one time, disabled prior to BOR)

This will allow new joiners (randoms) to become part of the family theme. Also shows if they intend to be active or not.

Normally, within 48 hours of joining, you can go in IRC and ask a mod to change your name anyway.  I'm pretty sure they also change races as well, but not 100% sure.

yep Ive had to do this before, within 48 hours of joining you can change your Empire name and your race, but if your going to use a custom race you have to already have it made and have the link to it aswell smile

good for randoming in as an attacker when the fam needs a banker or vice versa, or if the fam has a theme ^_^

Hmm...maybe we rewrite the "welcome" message you get upon joining a fam, to include how to change race/name after joining. I wouldn't give the player the option. The reason they find a mod is to show activity and desire to do more than join the fam and go inactive.

I hated this guy at the start, however, I played a round in PW with him where he went as an anonymous player. Our fam got smashed up and everyone pretty much left. watch out mods this can be abused (and its probably being abused).

You should watch what the empire has built, a player starting revalon, builds 116 CFs explores in tic 5 and fb the new planets with CFs, he's using the 60% income bonus. Wthin 48h he has a loooooong time to explo & build a lot of CFs and earn a significative advantage for the fam. Then he talks to mods to change his race to attacker and swaps the CF planets to a banker in the fam...  hmm

Now figure 2 players in a family do it, its a damn big and unfair advantage for BoR! yikes

So...investigate!  if you find the empire has built infra (only when it means an advantage for the fam, ressie stuff does not necessarily mean an advantage) then the race change shouldnt be allowed.

you just allow it, it opens tons of strategic possebilitys.
just give people the chance to change their race ONCE! in the first 48 hours of their joining. (after the round started that is)

pretty sure its 48hrs after you join, not 48 hrs after round starts, so you'd need to join just before round starts to take advantage of this tongue

what alundra said. its 48hrs after you join a fam that it starts. so if you join before round starts it still counts to the 48 hours (notice its hours not ticks!)

You actually have to join AFTER the start of the round to be eligible for a race change, so really you could never plan with your family to take advantage of it anyway. I personally can't see anyone abusing this because the gain are just so small. In the first 2 days the best strat is just to pump 1 banker mostly - if your fam doesnt have any other Rev/custom banker to do that job then you're losing already...

I know for a fact some people started a round then changed race the 2nd day into the round.
I will not post names here, if any mod is interested you know where I am  (for sure the mod that did it is quite interested in my silence btw).
