Close, but no. I can understand why one would think this might be the case.  In sufficient quantities, alcohol diminishes one's IQ and so drinking in order to enjoy cope with or enjoy conversations with people of lower IQ levels / lower levels of education might make sense.  This isn't the case, though, because I actually enjoy and find value in conversing with all sorts of people regardless of their level of intelligence (Einstein and VKemp excluded, of course).

ive not read the whole thread, but if you've got high iq you're more luikely to consume more than average amounts of alcohol. therefor my guess is its to blot out thinking about things like your own mortality, life & the universe, essentially the point of existence.
