Re: the draconian governance of the mods

I don't know about anyone else but I am sick and tired of the draconian governance of the mods.  I understand why dictatorship might be necessary in games with millions of players like world of warcraft but this game is limited to roughly 500 accounts and possibly 100 are active.  The reason popular games can be regulated like that is because they have an owner that cares about the game.  This game is run by the IC community.  Stefan couldn't care less about this game.  He gets his VIP money and pays the server upkeep but has nothing to do with this game anymore.  This is why we have allowed developers like elro and pie and ps to code for the game.  The rules in this game are based off a game that doesn't exist anymore.  This game belongs to the IC community.

However, despite this truth many persons have been targeted by the mods and blocked/banned/deleted for no reason.  Despite the fact that I have not broken any rules of this forum, this thread will undoubtedly be closed.  I implore all the players who belong to this community to speak out and raise your objections to the "i said so" approach of the mods. This is tyranny.  Viva la revolution!!!

So what are you suggesting? The community as a whole governs themselves?

Re: the draconian governance of the mods

i suggest the mods start following the rules laid out in the "forum rules" link and they post an explanation for closing threads.  i suggest they give you a warning of a rule you are breaking before you are banned from a chat.  i suggest they explain their actions when called out.

i am not calling for the community to govern itself.  i'm calling for a fair government.

Re: the draconian governance of the mods

this game only exists because people donate money. this is not a popular game where people pay to play.  the donors have put far more money into this game than stefan.  this game belongs to the people and not the mods.

Re: the draconian governance of the mods

"post an explanation for closing threads"

This would break forum rules (no discussing bans and discplinary actions in the forums). I am happy to go over some of the forum threads closures if you would like, come join me in #court and we can discuss the closures of threads.

As for the warnings in chat, when certain long term players have been warned numerous times (I am not saying you specifically, I have never kicked or banned you from #mod) then when they continue to break the rules, a warning is irrelevant since a warning acts as a means to inform the player that they are breaking the rules. If they already know the rules from previous and repeated warnings, then an outright kick is warranted.

"i suggest they explain their actions when called out."

You called out the threads closures, and I have stated I am happy to discuss these closures with you. Please join me in chat to discuss this further. smile

Re: the draconian governance of the mods

I have no issues with this being a debate thread, and therefore wont shut it based on my opinion. (Ive seen worse in the Politics forums and just because its aimed at the mods see no reason why we cant have some fun with this? tongue)

- Its true that this is a largely based community game. Without it, it simply would not survive.
- Its true that there are extremely large "grey" areas in our rules book. I would love to see these clarified and adhered to more so, also treating everyone in a fair manner no matter their allignment with mods.

I think its needed when someone is blocked/banned etc for there to be a simple LOGICAL reason behind why it was done and also that that person has a right to defend themselves before any extra actions are taken against them - At least give their fams the right to claim planets/aid if plausible. Also I see no harm in having a "community mod" or two to mix in with current mods. Afterall, like weve said it is a community run game and if ppl are smart about it they should have the right to elect someone they think might be able to help out with getting their issues heard.

Would also be nice to hear from a few of the mods in re: to this thread but I also understand the implications of getting involved with a hostile penguin/audience tongue

Though at the end of this all, Dpeng, I think you have pushed limits pretty far lately to get a point across. I possibly would have taken a different route but thats the diff between you/me. (Probs the only diff tongue)

When you are warned for harassment and spam in #mod, and then continue such behavior, then you get a kick. Further continuance of that behavior gets a kick and a ban. You get a warning. You don't get a warning for every occurrence thereafter. Especially when such harassment drives other players out of #mod because they do not enjoy being pinged 100 times or having attention brought upon themselves about playing penis games, etc.

Re: the draconian governance of the mods

i agree with him that mods have always been a certain type. Only modding people who they played with and befriended during the game. That leaves with a pretty 1 way group who always follow the same people

Re: the draconian governance of the mods

Irony iof your post Ilu, a "friend of the mods" was banned from #mod for a few hours after repeated kicks for breaking the chat rules.

Also, of course there is a selective type of person who becomes mod. One must fit the criteria, most important being the fact that Moderators work for $3 a month in benefits, and have to take verbal abuse and slander with a smile. Not everyone is up for that task.

Re: the draconian governance of the mods

Pengy, you were harassing this person in #mod to the point of making them feel uncomfortable and making that person leave on several occasions. You lied to Worny to get your ban removed to come back and do it all over again. Does this person not have the right to not be harassed? Does this person in #mod not have any rights, only you? You posted a pic of your butt claiming there was no rule against it and were upset it was removed. Then you wanted to post a pic of your bodily excrement claiming no rule against that. It would have been nice to present the whole story but I understand you were only presenting your side of the case.

~~Lemming of leather and lollipops~~

Right, so what are we waiting for?  Can we get this going?  Any other feedback?

Re: the draconian governance of the mods

dpenguins you know I love you, but I'm not going to sit through your trolls anymore on this situation. The adminstration trusts the Mod Team to enforce the rules the game, and they do so, working on a daily basis for virtually no compensation.

Some decisions may not seem fair to all, that's understandable as we are all humans and prone to misunderstandings and having very different points of view. However I can assure you that every decision the Mod Team has made has been in good faith and trying to stay true to the rules of the game, in a genuine effort to improve IC.

Everyone is allowed to voice their opinion, however this will not change the Moderators' decisions. And concerning this issue, you are not acting in good faith, as you have admitted multiple times you are just trying to cause unrest.

As such, thread closed.
