Re: AMD or Intel?

i bought an AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition, thats a 3,4GHz quadcore CPU with unlocked multiplier, ie its very easy to overclock. That combined with a cabinet with good airflow and a closed-system watercooler for CPU only, it runs at a steady 4,0 GHz. Both parts are cheap, and this CPU performs better than Intel's that cost double or triple *in most situations* - not all.

Re: AMD or Intel?

Well couldn't wait for my tax return, so this is what I have now...

Processor: AMD A6-3600 APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics 2.10GHz
6GB Ram on a 64-bit Operating System.

I'm not to sure that i'm really impressed with Windows 7, and they are already talking about a Windows 8...

Still...I'm now able to play all those games that I couldn't play before...for the last 4 years...due to "you have to have a Duo Core, you have to have a Quad Core...you have to have a Decehydron Core...." crap.

=^o.o^= When I'm cute I can be cute.  And when I'm mean, I can be very very mean.  I'm a cat.  Expect me to be fickle.

Re: AMD or Intel?

Hey Key, what is the speed of the ram you got? I heard the faster the ram you get with an AMD APU the better the built in GPU  performs. I was looking at getting 1600 or 1866Mhz ram if i get one. Depending on the Motherboard you could go up to 2100Mhz even.

RAM is important, very much so.

Re: AMD or Intel?

I bought a system. 5 years ago that is still able to play mossy of the newest games on 1080p and over 30fps...

I payed 200 UK pounds for it...

Edit: plus the 200 for gpu and extra ram...
Gonna build a new one soonish..
I want a pc to last me 5 year minimum and I wouldn't want to ever spend over 500 GBP... And o want it to be able to game at very high spec...
All thks is achievable due to AMD..

- HUMI FOR MOD!!!

Re: AMD or Intel?

I want to play every game on a laptop for at least two years on the highest settings. So I buy Intel and Nvidia. Yes a power hog but also it runs like no tomorrow on even most of the games with serious issues (excepting Civ 5 at max size maps and max enemies... I cannot get past WWII tech without the game essentially shutting down between turns, damned crappy coders)

That you can only buy AMD if you want a cheap system is utter garbage:

CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor ($179.99 @ Microcenter)
Motherboard: Asus P8Z68-V LE ATX LGA1155 Motherboard ($119.70 @ Newegg)
Memory: Kingston HyperX Blu 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1333 Memory ($38.99 @ Newegg)
Hard Drive: Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($117.27 @ Newegg)
Hard Drive: Corsair Force Series 3 90GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ($92.98 @ NCIX US)
Video Card: Asus Radeon HD 6770 1GB Video Card ($96.97 @ Newegg)
Case: Cooler Master CM 690 II (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case ($69.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: XFX 450W ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply ($34.99 @ NCIX US)
Total: $750.88

US$ 750 = 465.607152 British pounds.

You can easily push the 2500k to 4.0ghz or more, much better than buying some fucking stupid AMD APU and listening to Baratheons garbage plan to use Xfire on it, lmao.

edit: You probably don't even need a case or a hard drive or the SSD or the PSU, saving you even more.

Why wouldn't you just buy a proper desktop if you want to play games at the highest settings?
