ok, say i am getting a lot of heat one a particular planet that i defiantly do not want to loose, will say 10-20% of my units stationed on said planet make it any stronger than just the portal? i realize that it would weaken the rest of my fleet but are stationed units calculated separately?

if an attacker runs your air and ground to 0 on shares he will be tempted to send small fleets on tickers. That when ur stationned units will be useful. Because they may stop him and if they don't they will return in ur portals and maybe after few lost that will stop him.

Not sure how it is calculated, if it's separeted or all together.
Some rumors say that stationned units defend better...

Stationed units actually defend worse than your main fleet. You shouldn't station units on a portalled planet at all, only if you're trying to defend unportalled planets. And yes they are calculated separately.

i stat a certain % of my ground, as a banker on random portalled planets, so if i do get raided & they get hit they return to main fleet & can stop a mass raid without you even being there

The best way would be to pick a system in a safe area where several fam members r present, when they see u getting raided (at some point u can guess a person is losing loads of planets with just tiny fleets, they can attack that planet (keep it unportalled) so the fleet gets returned to the main fleet. to prevent losing all your planets.

Keep in minds if the raiding party stil ha shares with you, you wil lose that ground aswell. So destroy portals where nessesary.
