Re: Obams's war on women

Recently Obama and the Media have been trying to stir up anger.

There was Trayvon who turned out to be a violence prone teen who used drugs and was often suspended from school. The Media jumped on the story and made it sound like the return of the Klu Klux Klan lynchings.

Only Zimmerman turned out to be a Democrat activist, hispanic, and someone who not just organized the black community but saved a black man from a white police officer. If there was to be a role model it is turning out to be Zimmerman.

Then another one of the Democrat memes popped up and started with effort and energy. They said there was a "Republican war on Women".

Only to have one of the ex-DNC/White House aides and now CNN contributor attack Anne Romney for being a stay at home mother.

This of course backfired and Obama distanced himself saying Spouses should be off the table (but only after catching heat for saying Michelle Obama could not stay home because they could not afford it).

But despite losing a lot of womens respect the campaign continued with the hyped war on wmen theme.

Then the White House got caught by surprise. Sorta like a claymore mine in your foxhole level of surprise.

Word got out that FEMALE White House staffers get paid LESS than the male staffers, and not by a little amount. No we are talking 20%!!

So now the Obama campaign is on full retreat. We shall see what news organizations did not get the memo to shut it on this topic.

Up next predictions:

The rich get richher
They hate gays
They are trying go pollute the world.

What won't be on the table is solutions to restore the economy or to get his staffers equalized pay.

Everything bad in the economy is now Obama's fault. Every job lost, all the debt, all the lost retirement funds. All Obama. Are you happy now? We all get to blame Obama!

Re: Obams's war on women

Stop kidding yourself. Wherever social conservatives have dominated the Republican party in a legislature over the past decade, they have proposed legislation that frustrates women's exercise of reproductive freedom.

Re: Obams's war on women

And what is to say that:
1: Restricting reproductive issues is particularly intended as an attack upon women?
2: Birth control/abortions are the most important issue of women's rights that they take priority over other issues?

They are necisarily the MOST important, but they are more important to women than they are to men

Zarf,

1. Intention, maybe not. Effect, yes.
2. Opportunity cost.

Re: Obams's war on women

1: Fair enough.  That being said, it's incomparable to a scenario where an action clearly has the intent of an anti-women agenda.
2: Explain.

Re: Obams's war on women

Some republicans want women wearing chastity belts and virtually all democrats think women are too stupid to buy their own condoms/other BC.

1. True enough. I think the slogan "war on women" is an exaggeration, although I'm sympathetic to the knee-jerk reaction made by some Liberals.

2. Reproductive rights are essential to women's freedom. Without it, women face the trade-off of career or family, and few women are willing to be celibate in pursuit of a career. Facing this trade-off, women have a tendency to choose a domestic lifestyle, a lifestyle that perpetuates a power imbalance between men and women.

When women enjoy reproductive rights, men benefit from cheap and available sex. More importantly, men who are sexually repressed are more violent. Look no further than Islamic societies to see my point.

Re: Obams's war on women

I would guess that since the women are essentially slaves, that the men are not repressed there... just not very polite.

Worn,

LOL

Flint,

Except, market pressures mean that few men can afford a wife until their mid 30s.

Re: Obams's war on women

Justinian I, a "war on women" presumes women are too stupid to manage to afford really cheap birth control. Anyone arguing there's a war on women is waging one, claiming they're dumber than men.

We first need to clarify two things:

1. Social conservatives have attacked the legality of abortion, and to a lesser extent birth control.
2. Social conservatives have challenged government efforts to reduce the price of condoms or other forms of birth control.

On 1, the social conservatives are out in crazy land. However, I am sympathetic with 2. I don't like government interference in the free-market, and generally understand such efforts as resulting in negative consequences. On the other hand, I am not going to accuse Liberals of thinking women are dumber than men. I think they are more likely naive, thinking impoverished women are incapable of affording it.

Re: Obams's war on women

"1. Social conservatives have attacked the legality of abortion, and to a lesser extent birth control."

I think the abortion debate is a legitimate one. Many women are against abortion. To speak as if only men oppose abortion is insulting to many women who oppose it. To frame is as a "women's issue" whereas being against it is being "against women" is overly simplistic and insulting to women who oppose abortion.

I agree that some conservatives' issues with birth control are just silly. I respect their beliefs, but, if they want to expand those beliefs, that's a cultural discussion with no place in politics. The fact is most Americans <3 birth control and aren't going to stop any time soon. My issue here is broadly accusing Republicans/Conservatives as waging a "war" on women when the majority of them don't care about contraception. Or when Republicans/Conservatives are accused of waging a "war" on women when they don't support socialized birth control.

It's not that expensive. I buy my own condoms. This is just a ridiculous debate. I live in America, not North Korea. I don't owe anyone a pill and nobody owes me a condom. Anyone who thinks otherwise is an intellectual lightweight and a little pansy besides. Nowhere in our Constitution can the argument be made that women deserve BC from society. And nowhere in our collective culture(s) could the argument be made until recently. Recently, when our deficits skyrocketed, our illegitimacy rates skyrocketed, healthcare and education costs [because of this baby culture] skyrocketed, work ethic was brutally beaten, relative production fell, and relative standard of living fell.

I just find the dishonesty disgusting. Non-socialists are waging a war against women by fighting for their freedoms and standard of living (which results in cheaper birth control and higher incomes, effectively providing the birth control for free and then some)? A minority of Republicans/Conservatives' disapproval of birth control is equated with a systematic war on women?

Sure, I disagree with those people's views on birth control, but I don't equate their views with that of the Republican Party of Conservatives in general. I disagree with both on many issues. But I have a little dignity, so I debate them on principle and don't insult everyone listening by accusing them of waging a war on women.

Nobody benefits from dishonesty and scare-tactics. The accused gets an overly broad negative label (and those who may deserve it thus escape it). Those who agree philosophically with those being dishonest/using scare-tactics are insulted, as if their position cannot be argued on its merits.

Re: Obams's war on women

The authenticity of conservative women has always been under attack by radical orthodox feminists, but perhaps not as brazenly as by someone with such direct and frequent access to the corridors of the White House message machine as Hilary B. Rosen.
