taxes are a de jure obligation.  I have no moral obligation to pay $0.01 more in taxes than the law requires.

If Bon Jovi isn't complaining about the 1% or telling the 99% he's a communist in their ranks, your point is well made. There's nothing wrong with taking advantage of the corrupt system in place (it's not like one man can change it), as long as one isn't complaining about it while reaping huge rewards from it and fighting changes to it. It's only hypocrisy when the people who've bribed their way to tax breaks are claiming they object to those tax breaks.

The Barbara Streisand example is hypocrisy because she asks others to do what she isn't willing to do herself. If she didn't open her big stupid mouth, she wouldn't be a hypocrite. If she didn't do what she explicitly tells others they shouldn't do, she wouldn't be a hypocrite.

The problem is not with those people as they are merely using the same exact tricks offered them by the government. The real issue is how taxation is obligated.

It is way too long a post to start doing in here but to try and just shorten it I will say that Tax brackets are evil. Tax breaks, however, if given for legitimate purposes (like creating legitimate jobs, environmental benefits) I do agree with. Why not reward those who do things to better our country? Being a high profile person will always get you into the lights of people's judgement but if you go and research you will find there are a large % of Americans who use the same "tricks" to lower the amount of taxes they pay as well. Nothing wrong with trying to pay lower taxes if it means you are giving back to your country in some way. Last time I checked that is still a win for your country.
