Flint, that is how propaganda campaigns are run (also, fun fact for today, my Chinese text books taught me the word for propaganda today! ). If you want someone to honestly challenge what they think they know, you cannot use slogans like this, because it makes you look like the opposite side trying to brainwash "Come to the darkside Luke...it is your destiny!"

That is what I am saying Flint, you don't need to really try methods to "persue" people. The best way to make your point with people who think you are taking a particular side in any argument, is to detatch yourself from any emotional ties to it (trying to convince someone to take a look at your side doesn't help ). Present the information, say your interpretation, and then let them come to their own opinion. Trying to influence opinions is essentially what brainwashing is, forcing someone to come to an opinion through manipulation. I am saying, freedom of thought (which I am sure you will be appreciative of) is needed to come to any opinion worth having, and any affliation with a group means some information is purposely selected to make a certain point. I am mistrustful of any party affiliated opinion because I know it is an opinion with an agenda, which means any information needs to be scrutinised over....now, this is my opinion, and more just some, well, information I guess (had a bad week, struggling to think straight!). Just to also add something to this thread...

I am not questioning the nutritional value of the donated food, and food kept in temp control isn't the most hygenic. Also, how can food safety be maintained from already prepared food? In fact, I would go as far as to say is "reselling" (it isn't technically reselling, but only because the homeless can't pay) cooked food legal? I ask because who then gaurantees the safety of that food? The donator? The shelters management? The state? I would say unsealed foods should be banned, but then you get things like fruits and vegetables, but still the supplier would be gauranteeing the quality of the produce at the time of sale/donation.

As for the spiralling budget, where do you start pointing the figure? We could start adopting cheap labour institutes for the homeless, this way they can earn JUST enough to buy some food whilst offering cheap products to the public/exports? What about cutting down on city services like street sweeping, park maintainence, garbage collection? I am sure the citizens can handle those duties themselves (weekly trips to the dump, physically sweeping the streets themselves, picking up litter when they are in the park?). I don't feel abolishing quality control (donated food already cooked is bypassing quality control) is an answer to budget concerns.
