Re: Charter Schools versus Public Schools

Evidence shows the average GPA of a student attending a private school is higher, that they do better in college/university entrance exams, and that they have a higher GPA in higher education.

Europe in many nations has a system similar to how Charter Schools would work... where a student/parent chooses the right school for the student, and the cost is paid.

In that system children have scores similar to US private school levels.

Given the huge benefits why do American liberals fight tooth and nail against Charter Schools and School Vouchers?

I call them on three points.

1) Unions
The NEA is one of the strongest Unions in the United States, comparable to Ma Bell before Antitrust actions broke it up.

This Union fights tooth and nail due to the fact most private schoolx refuse to join the Union.

2) Tenure
A teacher perk here... Tenure means nothing if your school closes due to lack of students. Once Tenure is obtained it is a license to not worry so long as they can keep certain numbers of students involved in the school.

3) The Agenda
The vast majority of teachers in the United States public schools as in the system as liberals, and they teach children liberal ideals. A school system that breaks this hold terrifies American Liberals.

I would also note there is a rise of private colleges, and this alarms the left as well here in the United States. They are bound and determined to stop this growth at all costs.

In the United States, if we could stop this liberal malfeasance in regards to schools, we could give all our children a brighter future.

Final note... Home Schooling is becoming more and more common, and this to scares Liberals here. The growth is especially strong in Liberal States with a large Conservative base such as Oregon and California. The left is trying everything including outlawing the practice.

Everything bad in the economy is now Obama's fault. Every job lost, all the debt, all the lost retirement funds. All Obama. Are you happy now? We all get to blame Obama!

Re: Charter Schools versus Public Schools

Actually, the evidence suggests that charter schools are no less wasteful or better than public schools. On the other hand, you raise important points. Tenure is a barrier to competition, and is therefore inefficient.

All barriers to competition, unless national security is at stake, need to be abolished. That includes marriage.

Re: Charter Schools versus Public Schools

Homeschooling would replace both charter and public schools in a heartbeat if parents got tax-credits for doing so.

Re: Charter Schools versus Public Schools

Considering the costs of higher educations are snowballing out of control, pretty soon all those public schools will be shutdown, and the only schools left will be the one's where only the rich can afford to school their children.

Your children will be laboring and toiling for someone's elses children who will be drinking high balls, and laughing at Poor Man jokes.

Our schooling is already turning many of our children into slave laborors.

Oh, and I've seen the educational cirriculum of those "Higher centers of learning."  I'm not impressed.  Would you fail a student, whose daddy pays your tuition, or could get you fired, and never find another job as long as you live.  Talked to some of those teachers from private schools, after they been belting back a few brewskies.  I never met a bunch of total hypocrits and COWARDS, who were more afraid of losing their job, for saying hte wrong thing to one of their students, when the student was wrong.  Or when the student would tell the teacher to F'k off.

Your private higher education is teaching nothing more than, you can get away with whatever youw ant, including rape, murder, thievery, as long as no one says anything.

Re: Charter Schools versus Public Schools

State-controlled, local-approved charter schools are hardly free market competition. By having quasi free-market entities and very limited options, we're only tainting the pool of study with garbage not indicative of what the free market actually produces when evaluated honestly.

Giving parents choice results in competition--results in better prices for better educated children. This is good. Period. The only people against this are unions with a vested interest in bilking the taxpayer for all they can--competition threatens their low standards, short hours, short year, and (in _some_ places--it's all local) bloated salaries/pensions.
