I like it smile My first idea was something similar, but was just a "1 person challenges another person" to a debate on a particular topic (for example, I challenge Zarf to a debate on "whether abortion should be legalised?") but I never got any far into any proper structure. I am thinking that we can maybe set this up as the debates continue, shouldn't be too hard to follow on if we can get the structure of it setup, and I do like the idea of more structure to the political discussion smile

Apparently! Though if we turn this into a structured league you can still have your fill of politics debate... or convince someone else to join before we finish our first round and Wormstrum might allow a third debate to start, though it will make the structure harder to determine....

Ok, discussion seems to be leading towards a league style debate...does any debaters have a problem with this?

A league will mean debaters can come and go as they have time, so will increase the number of participants, as well as have a well structured scoreboard...

Though I thought it might be nice to let the current tournament to continue (maybe as knock-out to quicken it up?) and maybe in the league we can have tournament like structures every now and then... like a IC Politics FA cup tongue

Or we could just meld the current debates into the league instead, either or is fine with me...

One important note regarding the question of continue tournament vs. league: We already have one person (humidity) who said he was interested in participating, but can't because it's already going on.  Continuing the tournament means we lose some opportunities to get new participants.

We can keep the tournament going, and have the first league tie of Wormstrum v Humidity (judged by Zarf?) then once the current round finishes we get 2 new competiors (the 2 losers) are ready for the next league debate, assuming that the final of the tournament doesn't finish before the 1st league debate... thats assuming my original structure for the league (and revised structure for the tournament) in that 1 debate at a time, which gives the others free time to not be debating... or for friendlies...

I am happy for any approved structure however, just my 2c...

If I am allowed I thought we should bump this thread so we can take back up where we left off on getting the league sorted...

When i get home from work i will go see if Zarf and/or wormstrum are in #politics, or whoever else is there... we can have some discussion on somethings...
