One upon a time people thought the news was unbiased.

When that was I am not to terribly sure. At least the media says it was unbiased. Hmm maybe I should think about that lack of bias.

Ever since the first 'newsletter' was scribed we have had bias. This is a fact.

You could be biased to freedoms, to liberty, to liberalism, to criminality, to whatever you want. It is time to say "the only bias in the news is the news!"

And do not get me wrong... all stories are biased. Why just picking which stories to air, how much time to give them (or words and page number) is a show of bias.

The idea of bias however does not neccessarily impact truth. Take a quote "Einstein said 'I would repeal Obamacare if I could'". If I actually said that comment (I have) then it is truthful.

At various times there has been forms of journalistic integrity as well. Ntegrity could mean many things, but generally when applied to the media it meant the stories they chose to report on the would do so with the least possible bias, and not use it as propoganda.

The word press has interesting applications also. With new technologies the group that self identifies as press changes, grows to add more subgroups. Bloggers, tv anchors, web media, email updates are forms of media now. Twitter in fact is said to generate more news faster than any ogher source

Though not all agree to a definition of media (In Oregon a court has ruled bloggers are not a news agency and therefore are not protected as media.)

There is also the issue of ethics, which should not be confused with integrity. Ethics was once described as "what you would do if you knew you would not get caught".

All of this brings me to the current bias in the news.

The old school news is overwhelmingly (In the United States at least) liberal excepting the radio of course.

The new media is mostly Conservative in nature.

We are seeing a dramatic death spiral on old media and the very rapid growth of new media.

So what is happening?

The truth is scientific poll after scientific poll has identified three major aspects of the US population

1) Faith
The majority of the United States identifies as Christian.

2) Family Values
The majority of the United States want strong family values

3) Politics
The largest bloc is people self identifying as Conservative at 40%. The next highest is moderate at 35%. Yes only 25% identify as Liberal.

So to identify why some media is failing, while others rise, you need only understand that the internet allows someone to find news which fits THEIR bias. Birds flock to a similar wing after all.

Now this is as unbiased an effort as I can get to identify the news currently. Please consider remaining as such as possible also.
