Topic: Rat a tat tat... DC laws gone wild!

http://cnsnews.com/news/article/va-ag-fears-dc-law-may-relocate-rat-families-virginia

Short version

You cannot kill pests anymore, you are to capture them alive without any traps that glue, snap, or crush anymore, make sure you have the whole family... and then...

Either release on site, release elsewhere (25 miles or more away... what was the size of DC again?), or turn them over to a proffessional who will train them to live in the wild again.

DemoRats never learn do they?

Everything bad in the economy is now Obama's fault. Every job lost, all the debt, all the lost retirement funds. All Obama. Are you happy now? We all get to blame Obama!

Re: Rat a tat tat... DC laws gone wild!

Storm in a tea cup scaremongering aside..

1) This law does not apply to commensal rodents; i.e common rats/mice
2) For other species that are covered by the law, killing is allowed if relocation is not a feasible solution.

Re: Rat a tat tat... DC laws gone wild!

Actually killing them is not permissible and the 'common' ones are exempted... except... if you kill off one type the other can fill the gap

Re: Rat a tat tat... DC laws gone wild!

I think in order to actually complain, you would need to find out which animals are protected...

I wonder if you support killing snakes, for example?

Re: Rat a tat tat... DC laws gone wild!

"without any traps that glue, snap, or crush anymore"

so just poisoning them is still allowed?

i can see why you'd ban a lot of the other methods cuz they are just plain cruel, in some cases leaving an animal stuck in a half alive/half dead position for hours on end.

Re: Rat a tat tat... DC laws gone wild!

"Actually killing them is not permissible "

Actually, it is:

"(4)  If none of the other options are feasible, euthanized. "

Re: Rat a tat tat... DC laws gone wild!

That's not using a trap, that's sitting them inside a gas chamber.

The cost is extremely prohibitive to do that with rodents.

"That's not using a trap, that's sitting them inside a gas chamber"

Did you just make that up?

where on did you get the "gas chamber" idea from?

"euthanised" literally means ~"put to death"

please provide the source of your "gas chambers".

Part of the commentary of the origional link

Maryland is moving to ban transfer of rats

Actually that link outlines thebgas chamber approach also.

Very expensive all told

Re: Rat a tat tat... DC laws gone wild!

Do you accept now that when you said "Actually killing them is not permissible "

You were wrong:?

Re: Rat a tat tat... DC laws gone wild!

Ok maybe its extreme. but sometimes extreme measures are necessary.  we let the rats find a nice restaurant for the meeting.  they pick the place so they feel safe. I go to it alone, unarmed.  after they trust me, I go to the john where you hid a tactical nuke beforehand.  then, I take them.

Re: Rat a tat tat... DC laws gone wild!

The cost per a rat is going to be about $50 each after all is said and done the via extermination method.

That is not feasible.

Re: Rat a tat tat... DC laws gone wild!

And people laughed when I said the administration (Obamas) wants lawyers representing animals... first they get rights against unseemly death (even rats, carriers of disease and pestilence), then they get marriage rights (proposed by some of his staffers) and then they get lawyers (proposed by a certain mayor if I recollect correctly)

Re: Rat a tat tat... DC laws gone wild!

euthanasia can be performed in many ways, the key factor being that it is a death that does not make the organism suffer. By saying that rats do not deserve euthenasia, can I conclude that you are in favor of animal cruelty? Or at least not opposed to it?

examples could be carbonmonoxide poisoning (in your beloved gaschambers) or just an opiate overdose, which in the rat's case (as they are small organisms which would require small amounts of these substances to result in death) would not have to be as expensive as you claim, given you choose the right chemical.

Then again, politicians are not chemists and are all too often completely clueless when it comes to anything regarding exact sciences...

Re: Rat a tat tat... DC laws gone wild!

It is not cruelty, it is extermination.

And yes, I am for pest extermination.
