Topic: Italy dooms current EU.

Well the prediction is coming true. The EU Euro seems to be collapsing. Italy now has a 7% bond cost and they wont be able to float that.

Merkel says a new EU format will be needed, seems that format will have the Euro in only certain countries? Or is a more sinister motive behind that statement?

Germany has been saying a lot that perhaps Greece should lose the right to Govern itself. Is this a time where Germany seeks rulership over all of Europe again?

So curious to see how the collapse will play out. Will they just give up on all of the failing economies such as Portugal, Italy, Greece, Spain, and Ireland? Will they remove them from the Euro, or will they pull the whole of Europe down to save one, a few, or all of them?

Will they place on the table the dissolution of Governments? A more powerful Central EU Government?

Tis interesting times. If I was a European I would stock up on food just in case.

It's bad news, for sure. It could cause a lot of friction and economic hardship, but I doubt it will collapse the system. Hopefully it leads to needed reforms. I'm confident a more centralized EU government will be on the table, because the lack of centralization has clearly been a problem.

And lolz at Germany seeking to rule Europe again. Without its Prussian values, Germany doesn't have the potential to be a great military power again.

Yup we definitely need more centralization, to prevent those southern countries from [meeping] us over again. It was a bad decision to let them join the euro without having them change their financial strategy. In the past this included spending and lending as much as you can, then printing money to pay the interest. Now with the euro this is impossible, but they still continued to spend and lend for plenty time, expecting they could rent money cheaply through northern interest rates, resulting in the current situation.

we NEED to have some form of control over their finances, else they will [meep] us over because we are so tightly connected. It is not only the euro, it is also years of investment into the southern countries by northern countries (which i partly blame stupidity in northern countries for, but partly the false image that rating companies gave the southern countries by giving them AAA ratings even though they clearly were not economically healthy, inviting investers to invest in economically unhealthy countries). Removing the Euro, be it all together or just in the southern countries (preferably), may be part of a solution, as the southern countries will be able to use their strategy of inflating their own currency gain, however this will not solve everything, since we will remain economically tied together.


Do not forget it isn't just Germany that has interests in having control over the PIIGS.

Centralised government just won't happen, it really wont...why? because places like Italy, Greece, Germany even, won't give up control of their own government in the form of a centralised system. Germany has had a fair amount of debate over whether or not to bail out Greece, and there were calls for Germany to leave the Eurozone (so unless Germany has control over the Euro, they won't be in favour for centralisation). The Euro zone won't completely die, but reforms will definately happen to prevent Italy's collapse.

Hahaha... I think a subtle message was sent today to France... it got downrated 'on accident' for a few hours.

On Friday,Standard & Poor's downgraded Belgium's credit standing to AA from AA+, saying it might not be able to cut its towering debt load any time soon. Ratings agencies this week cautioned that France could lose its AAA rating if the crisis grew. On Thursday,agencies lowered the ratings of Portugal and Hungary to junk.

saw an article today that if Scotland goes independent, it will be totally outside the EU and have to ask to be let in.
