They voted the bitch. They had it comming. About the supreme court nominations, its compareble with the system we have in Belgium were the parliament can still give away functions in our lawsystem. I can't believe we are still doing this in this century. The executive and legislative organs should NOT be capable of interfering with the judicial organ.

In Belgium, what is the defined function of the three parts ??

In the US, Executive enforces the Law, Legislative writes the law, Judicial interprets the law.

The Supreme Court of the US interprets the law vs. the Constitution.  If its a question of Constitutional Merit, the Supreme Court will hear the case.  If it is not, they will refuse to hear it, making the last ruling stand.

In the US, Conservatives such as myself, believe the court should be strict constitutionalists.

Leftists use the court to appoint "Activist" justices, who use the court to change policy and law.  When this happens, its extremely difficult to overturn the ruling of the court Legislatively.

Example:  The Court ruling on Abortion in the US, basically took away the power of the individual states to legislate the issue according to the wishes of the people of the state.

That those organs should work independently, without any reliance on eachother. This to prevent that one has more power than the other.
But then again, our king still has alot to say about each of those things, although he can be overruled rather easily.

thats what I mean by interfering or mixing up of the three powers. If you apoint justices for political reasons, or more specificly to change the spirit of the law so to speak you're doing wrong in my eyes.

We have the three powers like you have but the highest power lies with the parliament. Thats still democratic because they got elected. However, our executive power is made up by ministers provided for by the winning majority of the ellections in the parliament. They are not voted in directly like your president. Thats one of my big complaints. Next to that, the parliament can give away functions in the judicial organ. A bit like your supreme court seats.
