Re: ~Pinwheel round 66 PvC~

LOL, the "Score" system is meaningless because it has no accommodations for deletions or a lack of members in the first place... wink

In order of true importance, I think it is unanimous that size is the true measure, then NW, then Score, the reasoning is pretty obvious... While I personally believe that score is a great concept, its actual application in a round is skewed by the fact that it isn't fair to families of different sizes etc...(as in, you shouldn't lose score for deletions), and for smaller families a different formula should be applied, (as in a higher multiplier for smaller families,etc.... (A way to give them a chance at least to get close to Top 10)... If half my fam hadn't deleted, etc, we would be Top 10 score easily...even with only 5 active members)... wink

All very good points...am trying to think of a way that could be calculated (might think more about it when I am not tired)...size can also be skewed by the number of players and deletes also (especially deletes...think about Killas in Pumpkins...there went 300 planets), so size itself is also a problem with deletion/starting members (maybe even more so with NW and size rankings)...

The lose of score during deletion sucks, and that should be changed, but still works better than NW and size IMO

EXAMPLE:

Score:
8     Last Days of the Pumpkins (5506) [39,69]     932     8868448     73040

Size:
10     Last Days of the Pumpkins (5506) [39,69]     932     8868448     73040

NW:
12     Last Days of the Pumpkins (5506) [39,69]     932     8868448     73040

They worked hard all round (were even ranked 1 on Size and NW at one point), and they lost ALOT through deletion...

I give your invention the worst score imaginable. An A minus MINUS!

Re: ~Pinwheel round 66 PvC~

Indeed, likewise with my fam, we were not #1, but we lost a lot of planets as well due to deletion/inactivity/being killed off by some of our fam that isn't even part of our fam anymore, lol,  a bunch of decent/good players, (Colorado, Pickle, Ghey, Kpax,etc)...

Posted at pretty much the same time...just sayin tongue

Also I am not sold on the Score thing, as I said earlier, it is able to show a more general idea of performance throughout the round...Pumpkins deserve a much higher ranking than 10(size) and 12(NW) because they were a high ranking team for a large portion of the round...I still feel it's a better indicator, at least until someone can prove otherwise...next possibly Size, only because fleet jumps at the end is just a last minute effort to boost NW (won't have much reflection on Score I might point out)

Re: ~Pinwheel round 66 PvC~

Score was instituted because guys like PP would be winning for most of the round, and then lose both size AND NW to some late round war.

He'd then come bitching in uni about how his fam "undisputedly won the round", in spite of the fact that he DIDN'T.

Imagine if that was instituted in professional sports. If first place didn't go to the team with the most wins, but to the team that was in first place for the longest period of time. It's ridiculous.

Not as ridiculous as it would seem...in sports, if they were leading all the way through the sport, they WOULD be considered a good team.

If the sport was a 10km run, and one guy was leading throughout the whole race, and in the last 500m he trips, his tripping causes him to lose the race sure, but everyone would still consider him to be the better racer at the next race due to his dominance at this race.

Football, a team leads throughout the whole round, and then in the final games they lose due to 3-4 of their KEY players being injured. It handicaps the team, but everyone would still be thinking that the team with injuries would be the better team because they weren't at key strength.

F1, they work on a points based system on who won/consistantly scored high all round...not who scrambles together at the end of the season...

Even in sports, a lose at the finish line may not deter people's opinions on who won, even Lee mentioned before that he considered 99 to be 3rd dispite what happened at the end. It actually comes down to feelings from other players really.
