Re: Of Darkness and Rocks, Sign up and OOC

EVE Online is a MMORPG where essentially you fly spaceships and shoot stuff. The client is downloadable, and you can sign up for a 14-day trial or ask me for a 21-day trial (I need a current email address).

Space Empires IV is a turn-based strategy game where essentially you build an empire and build spaceships and take over the galaxy. It's a bit old, but feature-complete and reasonably straightforward to play and should work even on legacy systems. You can get it pretty cheaply on Steam.

I do think that by my eighth post in STS the Heleriya was being thrown into the future by a black hole.

And then Colta and Yoltoc and Terranova happened, and null-space torpedoes that would make mincemeat of the Deliverance.

Those were the days tongue

I apologize for my absence. I'm on my way out to dinner at the moment, but when I get back I'll write up and post a good bit tonight.

Re: Of Darkness and Rocks, Sign up and OOC

I should probably note that the bombers belonging to the Deliverence have jump drives Installed. They are a smaller version, and cannot jump more then 100 au. The drive needs a cool down period, and a charging time after a jump, so they are ideal for scouting. They cannot make a second jump after a first for ten minutes, and needs a further ten minutes to charge. A jump can be done after ten minutes, but it will burn out the drive.

The Deliverence have two transport ships for ground assualt, each carries fifty walkers. It is armed with two missile launchers and four rail guns. Made for landing through atmosphere and has good maneuverability in atmosphere. They are stored in the flight pods, underneath the top section.

Bombers with jump drives... o_O

I'm scared.

To me, twenty minutes seems a little overpowered, especially for a small support craft with a small generator. If you had a wing of these with systemwide sensor coverage, you could pretty easily defend the entire system without any capital-ship support at all. Six hours seems better to me - then you can still do things like scouting and deep strikes but you have to plan your movement more carefully.

One option if you want to preserve the option to GTFO of a deep strike gone bad is to have a LONG primary recharge rate along with an expendable booster (think explosively pumped flux compression generator) that would provide enough energy for a quick jump but would have to be replaced at a hangar.

Re: Of Darkness and Rocks, Sign up and OOC

They don't have system wide scanners, think more along a quarter of an au, my people havn't really perfected scanning from long range, except for planetary bodies, so if I was to send a recon force out, they would almost be limited to what they can see with their eyes. Their armament, which I forgot to add is two torpedo launchers, which are quite small, but can still be damaging, and a single compact machine gun. They only store 8 torpedoes, and they have to be 'close' to be effective. I know I called them bombers, but they are more suited for recon and transport. Also I'm reducing the range to 50 au. If they need an increase in time between jumps then I'll be happy to refine it. smile glad to see you're still here, I was worried you were going to do a Logan Grimnar and disappear tongue

If any vessel is large and ungainly it is the Deliverance, not the Feynman >_>

it might look ungainly on long-range scans but that's because it's of course limited by its ion engines

Do you want me in this?

Not many people know this, but I own the first radio in Springfield. Not much on the air then, just Edison reciting the alphabet over and over. "A" he'd say; then "B." "C" would usually follow...

Re: Of Darkness and Rocks, Sign up and OOC

That one turned out much bigger then expected. The local creatures can speak but prefer to use their sign language, speaking is used for shouting things such as danger and things like that. The monsters are like giant tigers, just with bigger jaws and frontal claws.

I'll look this over and read it later. But lemme say this: Don't add too much shit that won't get used soonish later then laterish. It creates a galaxy that is wide but not deep.
