Topic: Vanish

A new self-spell that makes your empire invisible in the map for 8 tics.
The planets you own appear like unexplored, when anybody sends an explo there he get the message
"the planet is surpringsly inhabited!" and the explo ship is lost (you destroy it)

However, your family empires can see your planets.

If you perform an offensive op/spell or attack in those 8 tics then your empire becomes visible.

And to avoid people abusing the spell it is only allowed to be casted every 24h (notice I said casted, not necessarily succesful)

could this be that extra op you're looking for Wardancers?? maybe yes maybe nop

now think about the new tactics and gameplay added with this spell and start blaming the shit out of me (like ever)

Re: Vanish

Doesn't add new tactics.  Just adds a way to hide and avoid conflict.  Already enough non fighting going on, don't need something to help reduce it.

Re: Vanish

if it only worked on 1 planet per spell that would be cool, But if it worked on your entire empire, the WHOLE map show up blank since everybody would use it constantly

Re: Vanish

ok confirmed you have the brain of a monkey

Re: Vanish

I think it would be more effective if you could choose who to display a planet as. So you cast the spell/op on one planet of yours and choose the player/family that other families will see for the duration of the spell/op.

Re: Vanish

*cough*

it was not directed to you alundra

another good idea to bump, fmods please be nice smile

Re: Vanish

cool idea, but alundra makes a good point.

i wonder if it would be better if instead of appearing as unexplored, it just doesn't appear in any lists at all.  it won't show up as an unexplored planet in map view, but it also won't show up in "get target planet list" and in the system view it will simply show up as "???" and the planet view page will say that its details can't currently be viewed

Re: Vanish

yes alundra makes a good point, that's the reason you can only cast it once every 24h (and you can fail), and yes I see how making all your planets invisible would be too powerful, maybe cast it for a concrete system only?

benefits for a banker -> can save one system from being raided for 8 hours everyday
benefits for an attacker -> can sneak on an enemy core system while building a lasertrap

I know the rules about new ops/spells, but lets give some fresh air, OH was a great adition, Warcry is good, why should we stop??

Re: Vanish

agreed, nothing wrong w discussing more ops.

system-level spell is interesting, but i still worry about making planets appear as explorable.  this would make the current way of exploring very difficult, even for families who have no interest in attacking the person who is casting the spell.  it's one thing to protect yourself as part of war strategy, but when it impacts players galaxy-wide who are trying to explore, i think it may introduce other issues.

i like the idea generally, it's just the making planets appear as explorable that seems questionable to me.  if we can hide planets in other ways without impacting all players who want to find explorable planets, i think that would be ideal
