"The Australian Broadcasting Company (ABC) web site has an absolutely horrible kid's game called "Planet Slayer."  In this game, kids answer lifestyle questions and the program tells them when they should die because they have used up their "fair share" of the world's resources.  The less politically correct kids are, or the wealthier they are, the sooner they are told they should die.  Accepting the default, average choices in the games tells kids they should die when they are 9 years old.

Yeah, I know you think I am exaggerating.  Because this is likely to get pulled down soon, I will show you a series of screenshots from it.  Whether it gets pulled down or not, a major media company (with all of its famed multiple levels of editorial control) thought this was a good game for kids.  I actually delayed publishing this, because I wanted to make sure this was not some kind of hack or joke site.  But you can get there right from the ABC home page by clicking "science" in the top menu and clicking on the planet slayer game icon at the bottom of the science page.  I still wonder whether it's a put on - it's that bad..."

On a more serious note, the program is a joke. They don't make the subject very popular with this. Its almost like somebody who's against it made it. Or somebody really stupid. The calc is scientificly complete nonsence. Especially things like 11.

you got more then I do, and I transport by bike because I work in the same town I live, and I have a flat. It doesn't take much fuel to heat yet I have to die at 25

I managed to make it to 11.8 cause I don't own a car and live in an apartment.  Thus we have learned a valuable lesson, poverty is good for the environment big_smile.

I am more bemused by the fact that something Australian has caught the attention of the residents of this forum.


With the new government since November, they have slowly started to let their hair down but thats mainly been in general programming, the news service is still pretty good and even handed (I still prefer SBS news though). Still, the ABC has a funny relationship with the government, seeing the gov pays for the thing outright yet the ABC still does everything it ca to piss off the government.

I would honestly surprised anyone in Australia has children playing the games on the ABC website. Most of the population is just like what woy would find anywhere in the work, mostly idiots obsessed with Big Brother.

Actually, playing with the figures is really interesting, I could choose all the most environmentally options available, make over 100k a year, and so long as I sped 40% of my wealth on green research then I can live forever!

And if I am the typical multi billionaire, I could live with that trade off.

I got 9.2 years, I think it counted more on that slider question than other things, it's a load of bullshit but I thought it was quite funny.
