But Edison didn't claim to invent the light bulb, he set out to develop a long-burning filament.

And he invented the first playback device.

The first "recorded" song was from 1250 BC Nippur, in cuneiform.  Although only fragments survive it appears to be a lyre composition of Miserlou

The core joke of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is that of course no civilization would develop personal computers with instant remote database recovery, and then waste this technology to find good drinks.

This used to be the best signature ever, but after several years, a mod noticed it had a swear in it, and removed it.  I am happy to see they are paying attention.

All I can deduce from the wiki link you provided me in chat was that MTV played way too much Rod Stewart on its first day.  But 2 Split Enz songs shows that at least one of their programmers had some taste (in spite of the excess of Rod)
