Topic: "Oops" says NASA... No Global Warming

http://news.yahoo.com/nasa-data-blow-gaping-hold-global-warming-alarmism-192334971.html

The new NASA Terra satellite data are consistent with long-term NOAA and NASA data indicating atmospheric humidity and cirrus clouds are not increasing in the manner predicted by alarmist computer models. The Terra satellite data also support data collected by NASA's ERBS satellite showing far more longwave radiation (and thus, heat) escaped into space between 1985 and 1999 than alarmist computer models had predicted. Together, the NASA ERBS and Terra satellite data show that for 25 years and counting, carbon dioxide emissions have directly and indirectly trapped far less heat than alarmist computer models have predicted.

In short, the central premise of alarmist global warming theory is that carbon dioxide emissions should be directly and indirectly trapping a certain amount of heat in the earth's atmosphere and preventing it from escaping into space. Real-world measurements, however, show far less heat is being trapped in the earth's atmosphere than the alarmist computer models predict, and far more heat is escaping into space than the alarmist computer models predict.

Tied in of course with the very strong evidence located at http://www.surfacestations.org I am going to have a field day with my first political speeches. Frying Democrats with this will be entirely to fun... The only question is, are Democrats Kosher? tongue tongue tongue

Cannibalism jokes aside, makes you wonder if ever some certain backers of global warming, including a few 'high end students' will ever admit they were wrong, and try to apologize. Doubtful. And they say I have to much pride and ego.

I will keep hammering away however, we MUST educate the indoctrinated somehow, perhaps one day they will wake up and see the world has not collapsed under the weight of 10 feet of new water over much of the land masses..

Re: "Oops" says NASA... No Global Warming

Logically, this does not disprove global warming. It only means that it is less of a problem than some models predicted.

Re: "Oops" says NASA... No Global Warming

Theres no such thing as global warming...i agree. Its called 'climate change' now. Its real.

So do those NASA scientists have an explanation as to why the polar icecaps are melting at an alarming rate? Explain that to me please.

Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee!!

Re: "Oops" says NASA... No Global Warming

yeah I don't know about meteorological math

all I know is the hockey stick humanitarian crisis of unchecked temperature growth isn't happening.  Which means the political measures proposed to check it are unecessary.

Re: "Oops" says NASA... No Global Warming

of course climate change is real.  The thing is, Gore's 1990 theory of man-made global warming rested on the heat-retaining character of CO2 and other pollutants.  If the new theory is now, pollution traps heat, which is converted to some other form of energy, by a process undescribed, changing the climate -- the burden is to prove the process of energy conversion is under way at all, NOT to simply say "well we KNOW that pollution changes climate, that's settled science, we just don't know all the details."  That's circular argument.

Look up the Ice Cap section.

Proof positive they have not dramatically shrunk, are a bit dynamic (lol at picture of 3 subs at North Pole good evidence) and that a bunch of kids used Google Earth to show how an alarmist site had faked numbers by actually seeing the ice that was not supposed to be there... (oops)

The Ice Caps are NOT shrinking. In fact Antarctica is getting heavier with ice. It has lost some 'shelves' but the consensus is that heavier ice inlands is pushing other ice out.

And before you get on the topic, so I can squash it to....

Iceberg right ahead! Well no, not really... You see there was only a recording of icebergs in the shipping lanes up to a certain year. That year alarmists got funding to track ALL icebergs. Since there of course the number of 'documented' icebergs has shot through the roof. So no, we are not seeing a larger number of those, just a larger tracking of them.

And to stop yet another ice related one.... Glaciers are not all melting. Some are neutral, some are growing, and *Gasp* a new one is forming in Washington State which is making people relook at the formation of glaciers. They are not all from icecaps nor from ice ages.

Warning, this is a topic I am well armed on. THERE IS NO GLOBAL WARMING! And climate change has happened always, eternally.... The Mobi desert was once a tropical paradise! The Amazon used to be a stream, and the Grand Canyon was not created that way!!!!

Re: "Oops" says NASA... No Global Warming

The funny thing about climate change is that the climate is /always/ changing, along with the composition of the atmosphere, and has never been stable throughout geological history. Though the basic ingredients have remained the same -- oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen, etc -- the concentrations have been as varied as the life that was contemporary to its period.

I feel that the next ice age will be far more worrisome to human civilization, assuming its endurance. Many major cities are prime targets for nature's bulldozer; mile high glacial ice sheets.

Re: "Oops" says NASA... No Global Warming

NASA is an arm of the US Government. So its findings are believable, honest and the data is fully transparant.
The debate isn't "global cooling" (1970s), "global warming" (1990s), or "climate change" (2000s), but is there anthropogenic climate change. That is, does the activities of Mankind have a bearing on the Earth's climate?

Well of course it does. We are not benign passive oberservers of the world. However, then comes the real crux of the matter - because anyone who understands science will know Mankind has an affect. The problem is what is the extent of our activities? Set against the Sun, earthquakes, polar shift, the moon, volcanoes, etc. When more energy from the Sun reaches the Earth's surface every day than Mankind has made in 5,000,000 years; when a single volcanic eruption can unleash a force of 14,000 Hiroshimas; when...; when...; etc. you do have to wonder how much of an effect can Mankind really have?

Re: "Oops" says NASA... No Global Warming

Mace: Even if we currently do not have much effect, do you not wonder what kind of effect rampant human exploitation might have? We already destroyed part of the ozone layer and have managed some localised changes in the environment with our activities... should we continue un-abated until we have destroyed the earth? Or should we look into different ways of doing things now whilst the damage is not catastrophic? Whilst we might still have time to make changes? Sure currently we may or may not have a large impact, but what about when there is 12bill people, or 50bill or 100bill? Is it possible to have actions now that will ensure when we get to that sort of level we are not destroying that which keeps us alive...

Also ever notice how most 'green' solutions are actually about doing more with less, i.e. high efficiency on processes.... doesn't that sound nice and capitalist?

Flint: I note the re-occurring word 'alarmist' in your little spiel, and think that maybe that is your issue. You have taken the alarmist view point, and like RWNJ everywhere, applied it to the masses. It is like saying that Fundamentalist Christians are wrong because they kill lots of people, therefore Christianity is wrong.

In this case, it is more refining the models now we have some meaningful real-world data, as opposed to trying to model on small data sets. I know you claimed it was cyclical reasoning to say that w are right, we just need more data to refine how right we are, but it is very true, and the way real-world physics work. We do know that the fundamental physics is correct, that CO2 has an impact on climate, that CH4 has a bigger effect and NO2 more so, we know that with increased temperature the potential for increased cloud cover also increases.  These real world data is just helping actual scientists to refine their models, and once enough actual data is collected the model will be accurate enough to predict what we should expect, including natural cycles and impacts of natural phenomena, though this adds time until the models are correct.

The science is correct, no real scientist would of said the model was 100% accurate, but should of done his social duty to point out that there is possibility for extreme danger. Having idiots pick that up and parrot their own ideological view point is not the problem of the science, that is the problem of politics, and the right is just as bad as the left for that, because in the end we are all people, and people are flawed...

Re: "Oops" says NASA... No Global Warming

I'm not saying we should not be greener or less polluting. Humans will always desire to live in clean cities, with plenty of green space, beautiful countryside, clear seas, etc. Our pollution/rubbish is more of an environmental catastrophe than our energy burning.

Re: "Oops" says NASA... No Global Warming

It is however tied together, burning of fossil fuels for energy is not 'clean' and has it's own health issues (unless we can actually make pure fuel for burning and have perfect combustion, thus only releasing CO2 + H20)

Thus being greener and less polluting is more healthy for society, and leads to cost savings and resource conservation, so that we can continue to use resources in 100 years time when our population may well be 20bill people... Even if you believe that oil and other such resources are not as limited as stated, if you double the population ,or quadruple it, you will start to find the reserves disappearing fast
