Arsy, that was the first idea I suggested in #mod when I started talking about this and it was not well recieved, but I agree that would be the most elegeant solution!

Like arsy said, that argument becomes totally irrelevant after 24 hours tongue

Adjusting starting time so it accomodates more people would be a good idea though.

Edit: the only exception would be SS galaxies, where it will probably play a bigger role. Again, adjusting starting time seems like a better solution.

It was SD that brought it to my attention. But yes, the best possible solution will be adjusting the start time, if they saw their way to do that. The idea is not to inconvenience any one group, the idea is to assist as many groups as possible.

I was thinking: why couldn't ppl just send aid before round is started, so that ppl can build according to infra plan without having to wake up during the night to do it or hide from boss at work?

I thought about that and realised that it would be abused by some players, sending aid, then deleting then rejoining...
But maybe after sending aid ppl could not be allowed to delete until 48h into the round?

BTW one day we have to talk seriously about deletion and try to make rules.

Maybe it could be like going into Vmode, no attacks or ops for some hours before
Maybe it could be under mod approval
Maybe there could be a countdown in fam HQ, that others have time to take plts, and that player has time to change his mind

i think changing start time will be unnecessary and would only cause confusion. as we know there are no new players coming and old players are used to the same starting/ending time for the last 5-10 years.

so no change needed.

Well the fairest method is the one suggested by Arsy, that makes it convenient (or more so) for nearly all time zones. As for the other galaxy only catering to Australia/New Zealand with the original idea, there are shift workers in this world Nove. I know I'm one!

Why wasn't it well received? What are the disadvantages other than people being used to the original start time?

Parrot, just because its been that way for the last 10 years doesn't mean it shouldn't change now. Like you say, only the old players are left so anything we can do to make it more convenient for them should be a plus point... even if it does only have an effect on the first 24 hours.

Its only a very minor change - should take 2 mins to implement - so effort taken vs convenience gained makes it seem like a worthwhile change.

I am not seeing enough support currently to warrant such a change however. so far from this thread alone i am seeing just about as many people against changing the start time compared to those who support the change.

A player cannot do much beyond the first 1-2 ticks, so changing the time to as Arsbury suggests seems most logical.

I don't think it's viable to create another galaxy to cater to a small minority when we're struggling to fill the current galaxies, and changing one of the current galaxies would badly affect too many people imo, especially after the first tick nobody is going to do anything after that for 5 ticks.

Best solution is Kollop's idea; aiding out early. And by the time you're needed to do anything(tick 5) it's daylight-morning for the few Aus/NZ'ers.

Difference is when it comes to hardcore galaxies Sky, where the time that attacks start is vital. Perhaps if this is trialled in the next SD with arsy's idea?
