Re: Road trip through America

most hotel rooms even like holiday inn are around 100 us dollars a night or more depending if you are in a big city or not. there are some motels that are cheaper but not really by that much so lodging alone for a month would probably take you over the 2k mark.  might be better to plan a 2 week vacation to one place or a couple different places that are close by. rental cars are also a few hundred dollars a week i think and gas is averaging about $4 a mile so you have to factor that in.

Re: Road trip through America

$4 a mile... lol. Damnit, i just spent $12 getting to work then X(...  $4 a gallon. Prices have dropped to $3.95. I paid $3.83 at BJ's because im a member.  Although i live in New York and the prices are higher then the national average here... Explain to me how a land locked state has gas prices much lower then NY... X(

Need to think about what events are going on where you plan to visit also. If there are major events room rates will be jacked up.

If you don't mind getting the "What's it like riding in a vag?" jokes you could rent a Prius. I think they are the most fuel efficient cars available here. Around 50 mpg. Ford Fiesta and Chevy cruze are around 40 MPG and aren't hybrids

Yes, take some tips from the Hobos Guide to the USA - Sleep in your car, use college showers to bathe, scrounge for food from restaurant tables people have left. tongue

I find Taco Bell to be the least expensive fast food place

Re: Road trip through America

best bet might be to find a lonely trucker who craves male companionship and get free rides from him.  they will stop at truck stops that have free showers and usually their cabs have mattresses to sleep on. all you will need to pay for is food and a concealed weapon for when you want to escape

Re: Road trip through America

Plan on 40$ us per day lodging (motel super8) plus 15-30$ per day for meals plus 800$ per month for economy car and 20$ a day for gas....that is not including anything extra like tickets to events etc....thats like 2150$-2600$ as a rough estimate for one month road tripping US style....but i would plan 3k as a budget to allow for emergency/amusement...2150$ would be rock bottom eating McDonalds dollar menu all the time....is not much more than you had planned but is a lil more.

I traveled cross country recently and along the major highways there were motels with a range of 29.95$-49.95$ in every state and in almost every major city....they are not the ritz but arent that terrible either....if ya end up in southern california send me a message and i will put ya up for a night or two and i am real close to San Diego and LA....

But less than 2500$ and you arent going to really enjoy your trip.

Retreat....helll, we just got here.

In part, it depends on your itinerary.  Have any idea of the places you plan on going, or is the idea to just... go?  tongue

Re: Road trip through America

why u call it tornado? thats a spanish word (and we rarely have tornados here), I though you called it twister

you can also use tormenta for storm, huracan for hurricane, inundacion for flood, sequia for drought, marejada for surge, terremoto for earthquake, vaticano for childabuse, etc...

Re: Road trip through America

"Road trip through America, how much would that cost? For about 1 month??"

The lowest you can find a safe motel is about $50 per night, so that's $1500 right there.  But closer to $100 a night is more likely
Food, $8 per person per meal, 3 a day, that's $24 a day, thats another $720.
Gas, figuring $3.75 a gallon in a 28 mpg car, for 2500 miles, $335.

So a rough budget for a lowball estimate for 30 days is $2555.  figure 125% for a looser budget, trinkets, incidentals, higher prices, laundry etc that's about $3200.

you can try and fudge it, if you can find state parks and such and camp out for $20 a night, and cut your food bill down by buying nonrefrigerated groceries, but probably a budget trip would be $3000.

I've never done it, because I use my parent's clunker and they won't let me drive farther than 200 miles each way X(

erk forgot the car rental fee, that's usually $50 a day right there, another $1500 sad
