Topic: Transfer Research Points

Well, this would allow people to more easily switch roles, and would indeed be interesting to see its effect....(plus would increase the need for strategic planning). However, I would propose a few restrictions on its abilities...

#1 Something to the effect of only allowing it to be done 1-3 times a round, (or w/e the player community thought was the most fair)...

OR

#2 There could be a penalty for doing so, something along the lines of, lets say losing around 15-25% of your RPs by doing so...which would make you think twice about just shifting them around...

#3 (Well this is not really a restriction, but having the ability to choose how many you want to move, (as I'm sure that moving of all of them might not be what someone wants to do, obviously)...

I'm open to suggestions... What do you guys think? smile

Re: Transfer Research Points

Worst Idea Ever.

Re: Transfer Research Points

Not the worst... but definitely not a good idea.  tongue

First of all, it's just... well... not representative of anything.  After 10 years of researching more effective ways of mining, resource materialization, and farming, your researchers, and the entire nation... gets a lobotomy to forget about genetic modification, so that they can learn to shoot better?

I'll let someone else get into the balancing problem.  tongue

Re: Transfer Research Points

yeah, it was just an idea... for all I care, it could be less of a penalty... like you can do it twice... and only suffer a 10% loss each time... or once @5% or 0% for all I care... The only reason I even thought of it, is because some players can fulfill multiple roles and have wanted to change roles mid round, (lets say from attacker to reso...) or from reso to banker...(like a partax)... and obviously, there is no easy way to do that.... tongue

You have to separate the two complaints here.

You are saying that the idea of having a mechanism by which a person can invest (either through direct cash inflow or a building producing that cash flow) to increase the percentage of one or more of 5 categories, with the ability to move those investments from one category to another... is a good idea.

I am saying that having that mechanism be called "research" is stupid because it in no way reflects how "research" works.  You might as well call it "flying monkey poo points."

Re: Transfer Research Points

In any event... As stated, its an online game, not RL, so it doesn't have to make perfect logical sense via RL methodology... Godwin. wink

Not the worst, just there are some better ideas than this, waiting to be done

Does that mean you're endorsing the name change from research points to flying monkey poo points?

Explanation: Before the expansion of empires occurred throughout the universe, planets everywhere were littered with flying monkeys... hundreds of trillions of them!  The flying monkeys aren't dangerous, except that as part of a mating ritual, they will fling monkey poo at industrial hardware, with the females being attracted to the males which can cause the greatest economic or political calamity.  Often, monkeys will even smuggle themselves on military ships, in order to fling monkey poo at the engines or other systems.

Anyway, obviously, it's a distraction to any facilities to even have monkeys flying around their facilities.  As a result, the government initiates efforts to stop flying monkey damage to systems through investment in flying monkey poo points.  These points are technically investments in facilities meant to control the flying monkey infestation, whether it be shielding on facilities, inspecting fighters for monkeys before they leave for battle, or clearing monkeys from Living Quarters so as to increase the number of people living there (little known fact: Living Quarters are actually built to hold twice as many people.  However, flying monkeys have a habit of taking over 50% of the quarters when available).  This investment either takes the form of one-shot capital investments, or producing factories meant solely to construct the drones, shields, and scanners necessary to control the monkey infestation.

Re: Transfer Research Points

Actually, whats funnier to me, is that the fact that you bothered to post that... LOL  If your previous comments were not a troll, that's fine, but just because you do not find it useful, does not mean others might not... and I don't believe I ever referred to it as a "good" idea... wink
