Topic: holding the people hostage

we all see it happening. obama unable to pass tax cuts for just the lower classes because rich peeps can hold out much longer then us and in the sense "hold us hostage" to get that nice tax cut they get. but my question is why cant we do this with companies? i know people have been talking about it socially. and have even planned certain days where they dont buy from companies or withdraw all thier money from a bank in the attepmts to hurt them.

but what if governments imposed taxes on companies such as the insurance and banks while putting caps on thier gains or caps on thier fines in a way where they would be limited to thier yearly gains. i know the instant thought when it comes to retail stores is that jobs will be sent over seas. but what if this was taken a step further. mandating that jobs were present in the said contries or thier products could not be sold here.

i know a lot of products are made in china, taiwan ect. but those are normally purchased by other companies before setting foot in america per say. so i dont think this would block trade a whole lot. maybe this could be applied to just coorperations.

obviously just an idea, and obviously just for talk but i want to see what great economists we got out there. it just seems obvious to me that we should get the money from the rich and wealthy but no one has a good way to do so.

my last note is that companies can threaten to take jobs outa america per say but they need those sales. and as america is probably the biggest consumer on almost all goods they obviously need those sales. they take away the job we take away the sales.

Re: holding the people hostage

yall hate my thread sad

Re: holding the people hostage

lobby groups are too powerful, especially the rich ones.

therefore it is nearly impossible to get bills through that affect the rich negatively.

Maar doodslaan deed hij niet, want tussen droom en daad,
Staan wetten in de weg en praktische bezwaren,
En ook weemoedigheid, die niemand kan verklaren,
En die des avonds komt, wanneer men slapen gaat.

Re: holding the people hostage

i understand that, i even understand that both parties are partially corupted from coorperations. but ignoring that fact, would this economically work at least in theory?

Re: holding the people hostage

Rich People are holding no one hostage.   Lower income ppl get more money back then they pay in taxes.   Where does that money come from??  The Government.  Where does the govt. get it??  Taxes.  Its wealth redistribution at its "finest".   No one has any right to other peoples money, no matter how much they have.  Heres an idea, try working harder and getting your own money.

Re: holding the people hostage

Don't work harder, work smarter! -_-

Used to be the motto during a re-organisation at a company I worked for in the past. In reality it came down to "spend half a hour making an elaborate week planning on a whiteboard and proceed to ignore it."

when republicans hold out on tax cuts until they get the larger tax cut, thats holding hostage. and i dunno how you pay taxes but i pay a whole lot more to the govt then i get back.

Re: holding the people hostage

my best yearly income so far was 30k untaxed. payed about 7k in taxes and got 1k back for my return. yea, the govt isnt handing it back like that lol. i think i was wrong to assume there was going to be intelligent responses to this general theory thread

Re: holding the people hostage

The problem is that the super rich, or one tenth of a percent, have never paid their fair share of taxes. You know there is something wrong when the heirs of Sam Walton and their ilk pay next to nothing in estate taxes, and the democrats cry and moan because the lower rich do not want to pay 50% beyond $1 million.

There is also something wrong when the top 5% make less than 1 million dollars, and the super rich talk about taxing them. Lol. Know why they say that? Because they want to eliminate competition from the little people.

Re: holding the people hostage

middle-class brings around the idea that you are halfway to becoming rich. what a fallacy
http://sociology.ucsc.edu/whorulesamerica/power/wealth.html
when 1% of a populus controls over 25% of all the currency they feel they have more of a right to decisions then others. unfortunately that is the case because people are slaves to the dollar. you cannot even try to argue otherwise, everything you do from the minute you wake up is revolving around that $. our finanicial system isnt just a form of goods tranportation. it is an allocation of power. the trends show that the middle and lower class are loosing thier power. at what point do they loose thier rights? its safe to say that a man in  debt has  little rights.

these are  common facts that people ignore because they are touchy and they obviously feel there is no point to talking about something they cannot change. but they have to be changed. our way of life depends on this system ballancing itself out and right now its not ballanced. the wealth is becoming stagnant on the wealthy side. so this observations IMO proves the trickle down theory tobe completely wrong and disableing tothe system. the tax rates need to be fixed accordingly. im not even talking about personal income!! it is obvious that a bill such as that would get shot down by republicans and thier "trickle down crack sweat"

i say go for the big $$ go for the coorperations who make record profits while i watch family members (my mother) loosing thier job and home over this bs. yes this is personal to me.

Re: holding the people hostage

Your all just a bunch of socialists and communists trying to live off others.  Thats what this really boils down too.     As for the estate tax, they already paid taxes on that money.  The estate tax is bogus.

Re: holding the people hostage

two,

I don't care that the top 1% owns 25% of the wealth. But I do care that the top one tenth of a percent are obscenely rich and control our government.

i can see it getting shot down easy with the "its against the whole idea of capitalism" or "socialism ftw" tongue

Re: holding the people hostage

What exactly is someones "Fair Share"??   The Super rich pay almost half their earnings in taxes.  Taking half of someones earned money isnt fair enough for you??    If you really wanna be "Fair", how about everyone pay 10% or 15% of their earned income in taxes.  That would truely be fair.  But fair isnt what you really mean, you just want ppl with more money to pay more.  You just want what seems fair to YOU.

"when republicans hold out on tax cuts until they get the larger tax cut, thats holding hostage. and i dunno how you pay taxes but i pay a whole lot more to the govt then i get back."

RAWR

let's pretend your fair share is 80%.  Never mind who the hell I am to say that, let's just understand your fair share of taxes is 80% of your income.

So if you really ought to pay 80%, and you're paying less than 30% in taxes NOW, you're a freeloader!!
HOW THE HELL can you take 50% of your income in subsidies??? SHUT UP! You greedy whore! The country needs the money! /sarc

if I earn $100 in sales that money is MINE.  If I earn $1,000 in sales that money is MINE.  If I earn $10,000 in sales, that money is MINE.  If I earn $100,000 in sales, that money is MINE.  If I earn $1,000,000 in sales, that money is MINE.  If I earn $10,000,000 in sales, that money is MINE.  If I earn $100,000,000 in sales, that money is MINE. If I earn $1,000,000,000 in sales, that money is MINE.  If I earn $10,000,000,000 in sales, that money is MINE.

We can argue what people like me can afford to pay.

But there is no arguement about whose money it is first, last, always.  I earned it, it is MINE.

Letting people keep THEIR money is not a subsidy.   A subsidy is paying somebody ELSE'S money to a person.

And when you say "OK but really when you recognize their rate will always be a hard 40% , m'kay, so they really don't own 40%, m'kay, so if they get 75% of what they earned, they, they TOOK that from us, m'kay" you are playing mind games.  You are declaring your attitudes are the basis of reality, and others MUST fall in line with them, agree or not.

If you're gonna play mind games, play the one where I'm God Emperor and you're the grape-fetching boy.

Boy! A grape!
