...a union formed today of south american nations. They take the EU as an example. Any thoughts?

Probably because most european countries are rich or maybe because its an economic alliance. Not sure, just guessing. We'll probably see it in the news next week.

Well S. America is woefully corrupt, so atleast they copied that part of the EU astoundingly well.
