Topic: KOTH Morale

So as multiple families have experienced now, currently once you get in the hill every family in the galaxy begins attacking you, and frankly with the morale system that is currently standard its near impossible to retake on 5 different families. What if we were to make the KOTH systems morale systems? Working similarly to morale planets, but say if your family controls the whole system, or like....80% of the system, everyone in the family gets a +1, or +2 morale boost a tick.

Would be similar to the game of risk.  The more of the board you control, the more armies you get a turn because you have out worked your opponents but now need more units to defend yourself as you have more ground to cover.

Re: KOTH Morale

I like this idea, it doesn't seem too overpowered or underpowered.

Your = possessive. As in, "your grammar sucks."
You're = you are. As in, "you're an idiot for not knowing the difference."

Re: KOTH Morale

It will be to powerful.

Anyone located in the hill will be granted too much power, it can be quite tough to invade a system, fully portalled, with DS, why reward them? There must be defensive tactics to repel attacks instead of boost attacks. What if one rather large family is located in the hill, they can continue to bash small families with a high morale recovery.

Re: KOTH Morale

So make it a periodic award rather than constant?

The core joke of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is that of course no civilization would develop personal computers with instant remote database recovery, and then waste this technology to find good drinks.
Steve Jobs has ruined this joke.

Re: KOTH Morale

Most logic to me would be half/quarter morale loss on attacks made in hill systems.

Re: KOTH Morale

It gives more incentive to get into the hill early, making it harder for one family to take a whole system.  Again, same as with risk, when you bust your ass to take control of a certain amount of territory, yea you should be rewarded.  The reward goes both ways, while you will have more morale for retakes/attacks, people will focus on you harder to take away this bonus.

Going off your basis Joor, we should do away with morale planets entirely.  I've seen large families, with large attackers, have 10+ morales, because they fought for them and are able to defend them.

As it is, once a family gets a footing in the hill, the entire galaxy starts attacking them.  We've seen it multiple times now, with 21, and before them 19, and before them 18, and before them 16.  Having some type of a reward for gaining control of hill systems makes sense.

You could even go further, to help keep the round from lasting so long that people lose interest, and increase the morale that is given over time.  Say for the first 4-6 weeks of a round you get +1, after that it adds +1 every week or 2.

Re: KOTH Morale

I agree there has to be done something about the morale loss in the hill, it's a killer. Portgas would know all about this tongue

I do prefer Joor's idea of halving the morale cost or even making it only a quarter of what it's now. This would not only give those who are inside of the hill more capability to retake, but also provide fams attacking from the outside with less morale loss.

Maar doodslaan deed hij niet, want tussen droom en daad,
Staan wetten in de weg en praktische bezwaren,
En ook weemoedigheid, die niemand kan verklaren,
En die des avonds komt, wanneer men slapen gaat.

Re: KOTH Morale

Hey Undeath welcome back to the forums tongue

I gathered from your post you're looking for a solution that enables families who control hill systems to be able to fend off the rest of the galaxy long enough to win.

What are the advantages of controlling hill systems for morale over flooding the hill with morale planets?

Re: KOTH Morale

Why thank you ps tongue

I feel like flooding the hill with morale planets could lead to too much of an advantage.  If everyone in the family gains a certain amount of morale from controlling a hill system, it still forces that family to work together as a unit to effectively hold off other potential aggressors.  If there are just a large amount of morale planets in the hill, that allows say, 1 or 2 attackers to spam mass amounts of morale each tick and be able to do much more damage.

I'd rather see successful control of the hill happen because a group of 10 people is able to work together as a unit, rather than see a family win because they have 1 massive attacker who was able to make 3x the attacks of anyone else in the galaxy.

I agree with Undeath14.

Re: KOTH Morale

I disagree, anyone who controls the hills will only have it easier to defend it.

Re: KOTH Morale

yeah Joor's idea of having less morale use is prolly better.

Re: KOTH Morale

It is better, if we were talking about directly implementing it into a game already going on.

Having the morale bonuses as i describe them would bring about new strategy to the game.  A hill rush like 16 made would actually be worth something (other than a failed round) because once they are in they have a boost over others.

Also, jOOr assumes that when you are in the hill you will only have to defend your hill planets.  Cutting morale loss in the hill would do nothing for a family that has a presence in the hill strong enough that they all of a sudden find 6 families raiding bankers outside of the hill.

Re: KOTH Morale

the main problem is the morale loss outside of hill systems indeed. If anything UD's idea isn't powerful enough hmm

Re: KOTH Morale

How about taking hill planets cost no morale or only cost half the usual amount? This will make the hill more competitive.
