Re: The Humans must be Crazy!

If that were the case, wouldn't the fact that humans are still around ("creating" an environment in which more humans can exist than prior, and "creating" more humans) mean that your argument is inherently screwed up?

Re: The Humans must be Crazy!

Here is something else Panda needs to add to the equation: Have any of the things man has created destroyed something in the process of being created?

We (humans) are a Type 0 society... we might even have to invent a new category for ourselves: Type -1

"So, it's defeat for you, is it? Someday I must meet a similar fate..."

"Have any of the things man has created destroyed something in the process of being created?"

well define destroyed?

Once could say when I make a lean-to that I'm destroying the ferns I use for a roof or the wood I use for supports.  If that is your stance then there is NOTHING that can be created without destroying something first.

There are 10 kinds of people in this world, those who understand binary and those who don't.

Re: The Humans must be Crazy!

/Panda would suppose that he would not know as much about creating or destroying as the humans would, as pandas generally don't create or destroy as much as the humans do.  However, Panda knows much about destroying and creating bamboo.

You see, when Panda destroys bamboo (by eating it), Panda can create a lot of poop, which, Panda has noticed, tends to help create more bamboo.

Now, if Panda sits and eats bamboo in the same spot without moving for a long time, it so happens that it becomes rather smelly and it becomes desirable for Panda to move to another spot.  But Panda is really lazy and doesn't like to move around very much, and so Panda has discovered that the best thing to do is to try and eat as little bamboo as possible and thus not move very much at all. If Panda sits very still and doesn't use much energy, it just so happens that Panda doesn't need to eat much bamboo at all.  And the less bamboo Panda eats, the less poop there is, and less smelly it becomes.  (Believe Panda when he says that this is a desirable thing for it to be less smelly, as pandas noses are very sensitive to smells).

Now, it so happens that very much more bamboo grows around him if Panda eats as little bamboo as possible, which hides him from the tigers and the humans and whoever else that might wish to find Panda, including, quite unfortunately, the sexy female pandas.  However, considering all the advantages and disadvantages, it still seems like a desirable thing for Panda to eat as little bamboo as possible, move as little as possible, and thus allow for more bamboo to grow.

Thus, it is the conclusion of Panda that destroying (eating) as little bamboo as possible is the best strategy for Panda's survival.

Unfortunately, the humans tend not to take this approach.  It seems rather odd to Panda that the humans' approach is, rather, to destroy (extract resources from the planet) as much as possible and poop (develop civilization) all over the place.

Panda asks the following question: "What do the humans hope will grow out of all the poop (civilization) they create all over the place, anyway?"

Re: The Humans must be Crazy!

Software is created without destroying anything. The software is written to stuff which required destruction, but the software itself one could argue is 'green' and/or 'pure'.

Everything bad in the economy is now Obama's fault. Every job lost, all the debt, all the lost retirement funds. All Obama. Are you happy now? We all get to blame Obama!

Nice argument... if your PC runs off solar power tongue

At this point in history I believe we are only good at creating one thing, babies, and quite frankly that in itself is destructive.

Re: The Humans must be Crazy!

well if its true that matter cant be created or destroyed then its impossible for anything to make something without destroying something otherwise where do you get the matter from.

Re: The Humans must be Crazy!

From the point of view of physics and metaphysics, that which humans are capable of destroying is only the artificially constructed essence of a thing (it's name or properties as described through language, for example the human body).  The real essence (the sub-atomic properties or supernatural properties of a thing, for example the human 'spirit' or 'soul') can't be destroyed.
