Re: Mubarek

Have you read up on the wikileaks articles? In between all of the junk there was this little pearl about the Israeli-Palestinian peace conferences. Turns out the Palistinians were willing to give up practically everything for peace and a place to live but that Israel was effectively stalling and ignoring the peace offerings.

Eye opener isn't it.

Now who are the civilized people, the Israeli? Haha yeah right, they don't want peace it seems, they just want to throw cluster bombs on civilians to get free space so they can colonize the ghost towns that once belonged to dead Palestinians...

US support of Israel should've stopped ages ago. However it will never stop because there just are too many powerful lobby groups who have (financial) interests in Israel. A president who stops supporting Israel won't last long: it's political suicide and the politicians know it.

Maar doodslaan deed hij niet, want tussen droom en daad,
Staan wetten in de weg en praktische bezwaren,
En ook weemoedigheid, die niemand kan verklaren,
En die des avonds komt, wanneer men slapen gaat.

>The IDF is clearly uneasy with the prospect of the Egyptian military being an adversary.

Maybe thats because Egypt ist armed to the hilt with western weapons

That's how fast it takes for a guy to get whacked

DUH that is called 'right of return' and if applied to any other country, like say Norway, it would mean Americans would run your government forever from the inside.

Because it says anybody who felt they had to leave Country X has a right to return as a citizen of country X.

and their kids

and their grandkids

and their greatgrandkids

etc.

Re: Mubarek

Heh the real reason this palestine-israel conflict continues is the billions in aid paid to countries to keep it at a "low boil". Even Mubarak who is seen to the US to be key to peace talks stands to gain much from a continuing conflict.

Also, the west's decision to displace people back in the 40s could only be duplicated for a full "resolution". After a generation has grown up on those lands this really isn't sufficient. If palestine can swallow their pride and accept peace at this point, that would certainly be "being the better man". It's really a dreadful situation. But undeniable that the conditions in Palestine are much worse than those in Egypt. Really, we topple Iraq for gasing Kurds, but allow israel to continue to violate human rights in palestine daily. Not only that, but we fund it. Insane.

Re: Mubarek

As soon as the PLO got some land and some population under their recognized authority they started kidnapping and torturing their own people.  PLO = PA = Arab Mafia.  Israel, schmizrael, the reason Gaza didn't become the world capital of call centers and offshore banking was Arafat's rape of his own people.  And the West went along with it because PA promised to be "peace partners". They gave bullshit in the required place and time and legitimized western diplomatic initiatives.

That didn't do crap for "Palestinians" aka "permanent refugees no Arab kingdoms want", so they went with pro-Iranian terrorist groups like Hamas.  Because Hamas promised to rule without raping Palestinians, being too holy to permit sex drugs & rock & roll, and making holy war on Jews: the reform ticket.

lol yep, scratch that.

Really, I think it is important for him to secure a legacy in Egypt's history and not be looked upon as a failed ruler in a country with a wealth of strong rulers in the past. I judge this by his speech.

He was seen 'leaving' by heli earlier today.

And now it seems the military has taken over.

Makes me wonder who was flying that chopper. A genuine military coup by generals and shit. It's been a while!

I'd put my money on Berlusconi!

At least he's got the wits to compensate for being a corrupt criminal mutha by providing bikini bimbos on tv. That's fair policy.

What is the stance of the army on religion btw? Cause this could go any direction.

the army has had a hand in every Egyptian president for 60 years, all this is hardly a revolution?
