Topic: Have you ever heard of anything as stupid as this???

Someone I know (I wont say who cos she will kill me!) says that... if you lock your car keys in your central locking car (don't know how this can happen tbh) and you are stuck to get in...if you ring home, get someone to get the spare button for the central locking...if you put your phone to the car, and at home they press the button close to the phone, the car will unlock..

This to me seems so stupid its unreal, but if anyone has done this then please say. Even though I would be eating my words hmm

Car keys use infrared I thought? No soundwaves or whatever.

Re: Have you ever heard of anything as stupid as this???

seems plausible to me using the cellphone as a waypoint to hit the car

Tried and succeeded. Eat your words, Rambaldi, cause it's possible although not always easy tongue

I'll never know if it was worth the pain, but I still loved it more than anything in the world - it was my life.

Didn't they do this on Mythbusters?

This used to be the best signature ever, but after several years, a mod noticed it had a swear in it, and removed it.  I am happy to see they are paying attention.

You're not thinking about when they tried to unlock a car with a tennisball or in general air pressure?

Btw, thanks Rambaldi. You just gave me an idea for my 5th semester project. smile

ONSTAR users can call the company and it will unlock your doors for you.

Could be the phone interfering with the receiver...

Well apparently they operate on radio waves so I guess it's possible?

Re: Have you ever heard of anything as stupid as this???

I've got this awesome piece of technology for getting into a car when you lock yourself out.  It will automatically crack open the window enough so that you can stick your hand inside the car and unlock it.  It's called a "rock!"

Re: Have you ever heard of anything as stupid as this???

hmmm... id prefer the phone method if it did work... aside from the repair cost, and finding glass in the car for months after, and arousing everyone to your actions, it would be easier smile

Real men don't forget their keys.

Re: Have you ever heard of anything as stupid as this???

Depends, this could be plausible.

It was tested with these electronic keys that holding them to your head in some instances can almost double their range.

If thats plausible then Im sure there is some means by which this could also be.

Due to a virulent strain of moronic mods, your population are worried they will spawn some of their own therefore they have resorted to wearing mod-idoms. Pop growth is reduced by half.

Re: Have you ever heard of anything as stupid as this???

It would be a retarded car if it worked like that tongue and this was also tested on mythbusters and it was busted hard

Re: Have you ever heard of anything as stupid as this???

it probably depends on the car. some might use something like infared that wouldnt travel through a phone, while some probably use a wavelength that could travel through a phone. it could also depend on the reception between the phones and the quality of the phones.

Mythbusters is full of bullshit.

[Useless Fact]If you have a car alarm that runs on the Moss system you can use any Moss keyring to turn it off. All you have to do is wipe the memory on the keyring (emp, magnet, a week in the freezer) and presto! When you beep the keyring the alarm turns off. big_smile Screw it up, however, and the alarm will sound.[/Useless Fact]

Lock system/ production years/ models:

Central locking was standard, but early models (<'85) do not have the double-lock feature. Starting somewhere in 1985 model year, the double lock feature became standard. Actually, it seems that the double lock feature was used in all E30's with production date 9/84 and up. E28's seemed to start 1/85 or mid year production.

Early models had keys marked with an 'I' and where shorter, using a 4 digit key code. Later models are marked with an 'S' and have longer keys with a 5 digit key code. The double-lock feature is engaged with the last section of the key - the valet key is shorter than the regular keys and does not engage the double lock.
