Re: ICC 08 - discussion

Noir- We dont need the practice right before the actual ICC... Even a month or so before it starts would be nice.

Can you take the Chocolate Rain

Re: ICC 08 - discussion

no practive, it takes to much time and is just lame

if you make a fam, you should already know about those players and what their online time and commitment is

Re: ICC 08 - discussion

I would have to agree that NW limits would be something to be able to use. Yet at the same time, morale could still come into play and limit people at the same time. Likewise, if morale was taken out but there was still networth restrictions, I think that could be good as well.

If one is to be deleted, then that could be fine, but I don't agree with both being taken out of the picture.

Re: ICC 08 - discussion

Make the maps bigger because the spread you get just from the starting home system location is enough to kill any fam you want, attackers spreading is not even a big concern, all I have to do is mass your nonattackers before they portal or even laser up.

Make each coordinate on the map a clickable system, and just position all the fams in that round equidistant from each other. Reduce the number of planets in each system to like 10 or something. That way everybody has equal number of systems apart from each other. Taking it a step further, if there are 9 fams, you can place their starting location like on a tic-tac-toe game. Top left, top middle, top right, middle left, middle middle, middle right, bottom left, bottom middle, bottom right. If you want a "general" way to place an arbitruary number of fams in a given round, then just do a "circle". so 6 fams? Make it a hexagon shape with the fams placed at the vertices, 5 fams? pentagon shaped etc etc. That's balance. Families are further apart from each other so it is not as easy for people to just sit and mass send fleet before portalling even started, yet there aren't that many planets per system for you to sit and infra like crazy.

Take out the no attacking other fam's rule for the first 4 or so days. No one wants to do that unless it is a round with only 2 fams/sides involved. Other fams keep each others in check as building an early fleet means less infra and so other fams not involved in the conflict can just infra and gain the lead later on. But it is BS for people to just sneak people in especially with the almighty DS early on and you can't even make an attack to remove him (which I propose making it less powerful, the point is to prevent massing nonattackers early on, not to be used as a 2nd home system early on, increasing the map size should help).

Re: ICC 08 - discussion

hmmm is it possible to hide to location of a fams homesystem????

that would make it very interesting.... i.e. if u wish to find it u have to go searching big_smile

i dont like hiding HS, its a small gal and would take 15min to scan for other fams

we do need to check how DS are gonne work like zidi suggested

Re: ICC 08 - discussion

lol ok so I was putting it off... I'm tired... and Peep Show was on!

"in terms of fam placement, how about you just make a series of random maps, review them yourself, and then pick the one that appears to have the most even displacement of systems"
Yep, that's what I did last time. Bad thing being that it can take forever... I'll find a map which is reasonable and think the next one could be better, but of course its not, so I have to keep resetting! Not ideal, but its the best we can do with what we have.

DS's... complete forgot about those! I think they were 100% effective for the first week of each heat last time. May change this up a little bit as I don't think it was particularly effective.

Valenka's map suggestion is what we would have in an ideal world, but unfortunately, we don't tongue

Anyone remember how big the maps were last time? I remember dropping a size with each round and think it was 30x30 for the final... or was it 20? Hmm.

But yeah, as Noir says, we can discuss and discuss and discuss forever and won't get anywhere as everyone has their own opinion on how they would like it. So can we just get on with it?

The 130+ people who have said they are interested and the number of people already looking for fams in the drafting forum is encouraging and pretty much confirms that we will have a second ICC.

When? I honestly think we have enough interest to have a mid summer start, which means that we should be ending in the autumn some time... hopefully pleasing as many people as possible.

I'll spend the next few weeks putting the details together and will announce competition and joining information shortly after.
