yikes I just had to share it with you! It's should be CNN headlines! :@

This is architecture at Delft University of Technology in Delft, the Netherlands

Both sides of the building are completely burned down and it's collapsing... all in just a few hours just because a short-circuit in a coffee machine! So, do NOT drink any coffee tongue There like 50 firetrucks down there yikes tongue and an evil crashtender of Rotterdam Airport yikes Aw well... they still have my grades, just not the stuff I made there tongue

I thought the BBQ was next week... :-/

At least noone got hurt (unless they were inside the building that is, let's hope they checked every room carefully enough)

Sry fella.  Did some1 tell the camera operator to turn it off?  The tone of voice seems to suggest that, that and the quick move of the camera.

don't think so... there like 100 ppl down there filming/making pictures... that includes reporters...

plus I don't need the building any more, it's just there's a lot of irreplaceable stuff in there and a few of my drawings too tongue they recovered a lot of digital data, hopefully the stuff I made too yikes Else just bad luck and I'd still graduate, though it's going to get chaotic the next week for all those architecture students... you rarely see a fire that big... usually it's a storehouse or something, but not a normal building... and definitely not b/c of a coffee machine tongue

they managed to safe the Rietveld chair and some other unique works

also some maquettes by students

they were on 6th floor big_smile and my drawing book might be in the drawing room next to the library which might still be intact... there's just a 13 story building above which is about to collapse tongue

Such a big building taken down by a bloody coffee machine, it's a damn shame! I hope a lot of the precious and unique objects in the University can be salvaged.

On the other hand, the thing was incredibly ugly and it was time for a new look. Maybe you architecture students will be allowed to design the new building. tongue

Well... the most important thing still there is the library, as said before, too dangerous to get in there, so noone knows what everything looks like. They could be damaged by the water too, we'll see next weeks I guess when the building gets demolished... and I think that's going to be damn hard, I mean, noone can go inside the building, too dangerous, a massive demo isn't wanted b/c that would certainly destroy the library... so you want to destroy all upper floors and keep the lower floors tongue

And yes they might to a match to design the new building, but all teachers will join too tongue Plus every famous architect in europe, the winning design gives a lot more fame than you would imagine tongue

The last architecture machizine of my uni had an article about the history of the building and the topic was something like "this building is indestructible"... the page before there was a picture of a coffeemachine on the floor where the fire started yikes and that was the machazine of last month yikes yikes

Well that explains it. The author of that article started the fire! Anywho,  what style should the new the University be? I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a freaky combo between Jugendstil, Art Nouveau and Art Deco.

But I reckon it'll end up being just another shoebox. tongue

no... the ironic part is that water caused a short-circuit (well, that is assumed, not really able to confirm that tongue) and that no water was able to stop the fire, even an airport crashtender couldn't help a bit tongue

and there are more fires here... just not ones that burn down multiple floors in less than one hour tongue
