which is the best fighter plane?
F22 v F35 v T-50 (PAK-FA) v Eurofighter v Dassault Rafael etc.
apparently the F22 isn't as good as claimed. spends too much time in maintanance. the F35 isn't very stealthy. the T-50 uses old engines. the Eurofighter hasn't got stealth. the Rafael is stealthier than Eurofighter but isnt as good.

btw US air maintenance is a plus in our procurement system. We have lotsa Air National Guard units, we have more bases than most of the planet put together, and in our air services when you do your combat rotation you serve in grounds crew. If you don't use all those nice maintenance personnel they would be cut. Cuts in personnel close bases. Closing bases reduces the number of 2 star generals and costs jobs. Jobs cost votes. So few $$$ in maintenace means fewer generals and fewer votes. Think that will pass instead of a plane that needs TWO engines?

I'm more in doubt between the speed and firepower of the robust rebel X-wing vs the versabiity of thel Goa'uld deathglider vs the weapons array of the Federation Attack Fighter.
I've always liked Migs..
The deathglider's are clearly inferior to the F-203's used by the SG

sending the best overall fighter against the best dogfighter usually means your airfields are going to get bombed

They have way cooler names though. That has got to count for something.
apparently the F22 has a critical failure every 1.7 hours of flight and for every hour of flight it requires 30 hours of maintanance.
that is a major drawback in the F22 operational capability. sure it looks great on paper but if your best planes are always in the hanger then they arent shooting down the enemy figs.
The best Fighter-Plane would be Starscream or something.. He probably knows some martial arts stuff..

in 1991 an Iraqi F1 Mirage crashed while manuevering to shoot down a US EF111A Ardvaark, the only recorded instance of a kill by an unarmed plane

the battlecruiser imo
The F-117 has absolutely 0 defensive capabilities against fighters, aside from its stealth, and reaches a maximum speed of 300 miles per hour. Long story short, that's like saying a guy with two wings strapped to his arms is the best fighter plane.

in a one on one enagement the F22 seems like a likely candidate
but in a major conflict individual quality is not necessarily the war winner, but factors like manufacturing costs, reliability and durability come into play
Doesn't anyone take the pilot training into account? I mean, you can put me in an F-22 and i'll still get shot down by a sopwith camel biplane manned by the red baron..
