Topic: Problem with current IC

Ive been playing IC sorta sporadically for the last couple of years, I always get drawn back into this and every round im motivated to do better than the last. However, a little into the round i most often find myself loing interest, without really knowing exactly why.

Ive been doing good families, families with friends, just randoming etc.
Ive been doing strict plans and strategies and ive been doing more SS play.
Ive been leading, ive been banking, ive been attacking.
Ive been chatting in chat with fam, ive been fighting agressively and ive been booming passively.
Ive been winning and ive been losing.

Basicly ive been doing all the things that used to make IC interesting and fun to play, however i always lose interest.

And it struck me the other day why:

There is no inovation anymore in IC

No matter what scenario i find myself in, ive always been there before, I know what needs to be done, and I know how others will behave. And since there is no inovation, it basicly comes down to dedication and activity. I also find that this is much of the reason as to why i have preferred SD over the normal galaxies, basicly because its different and opens for more possibilities, theres a hint of innovation left! (keep SD running plz)

Please try to change IC up a little, please introduce some new unknowns, so that not every family is playing the same strategy, just with different activity.

not to mention that players are getting lesser and lesser...no competition left in the game...this round MW 15 fams with 15 players and still not filled...

will we be merging PW and MW next?

I have posted new spells and ops in the ideas thread, maybe if we can get the good ideas done IC will improve, but you know I always post it being sure it won't go anywhere since there ain't IC developers anymore sad

btw I agree 110% in keeping SD opened forever

SD always has been the most fun galaxy to play especially the 3 man fams

Again, RL moves faster, and Ticks here could go every 30 mins, to speed things up. That would help alot on activity. Now you do your stuff, and wait 50 mins every tick till anything new can happen... More action is the answer, in term of less waitingtime wink

And it will even the field a bit, as Noir says... cuz activity is more crucial, and smaller fams with more active members than a big fam, can put up a better fight in wars. Activity gets rewarded more. Now we do the 15 hour or so waiting for the buildings to come in, and use days on just waiting :s until we are ready to start playing more. This IS the problem. IC in it self, are well balanced. Layout is old and familiar, no stress. And little need to change at all, if time moves faster.

Thay could even try matching two galaxies, splitting Map in half, with one galaxy starting in sector 1 and 2, and the other in sector 3 and 4. All galaxys fams are allied in a congress... This then opens for the old Congress talks ;p (remember those? Only Leaders and VLs got access)

It would be interresting to see a war that massive... End goal, victory tongue

the game is dead unfornately, it will become less and less every round, a lot of people have said idea's for change to improve the game, but none have been really taken, and its doubtfull it will help, its been in a steady decline for well over year now

oh and it really comes down to the players that are left in the game, if we keep a strong community, in forum, and yes GAMEPLAY, it could delay, or possibly improve the decline

If we recognize IC is dying then we agree we are a close circle of players playing it for years, and rarely new players stay, as the game for most of new players is obsolete and complex, so it is like a pack of friends doing meetings to discuss what's next to improve gameplay, we cannot let the game die because it is too complex for beginners, we could re-open Virgo (but not as it was before please), and whoever passes Virgo is because he/she is REALLY motivated to learn the complexity, only people who loves strategy actually can stay playing this.
And then we have the community, with people who rarelly play but likes to post in forums, and while the community stays alive the game will be alive as an excuse.
I mean this used to be a game where you can post in forums or chat while waiting for the tic, now it is the opposite for many people, who is active at forums while waiting for the game to show a good improvement and play.

Vets in this game have grown within it, doing breaks and coming back, and the activity to play it efficiently is not always allowed by real life, I would say (as many other times) to set a FAST gal to play when you find you have 1 week in your life you can dedicate to IC, play 1 week round where everything should move fast, tics included, but again we lack developers to do it and we'd need a new server, so .... [wedge] off  sad

Well I started playing in Beta 1 and quit around Round 8. I recently started playing again about 4-5 rounds ago. When I came back I was surprised at how many old "beta vets" were still around. But there's issues with the game.....

As an example, last round I could not start playing at the BOR. I randomed into the lowest ranked family in MW. The entire family was full of either new or inexperienced players. They switched leader at least 6 times. Then you look at the top 10 families and they each have 5-6 descent players. The players right now are not spread out evenly to help the game out.\

I did propose 2 round ago that they should try to compile a list of 30-40 reliable, experienced, honest, solid players and take those players and make each a leader of a family. Those players would have to realize that, yes they may not win, but their whole goal would be to teach and recruit new players. Get the new ones to understand the game and get them to come back and play a next round. I think there's a whole group of players in IC, that may never have been taught how to play or worse yet, have been taught the wrong things, like breaking NAPs, no honoring agreements etc.

Another option would be to have some sort of individual ranking system based on EOR scores. And when a new round would start, players would be divided up evenly based on ranking so that each family has the same amount of good players as they do new players. As it is now, we have a group of about 40 players that always play in each others families and so the bottom half of the galaxy never gets any better. New players sign up, are never taught the game, and then leave never to return.

Maybe the last solution, although unpopular, may be to take IC back to the way it was in the betas and early rounds. That was after all, how the game grew. There was no drafts back then and there was no special VIP features. This really did level the playing field. You couldn't draft 4 players and then get 4-5 more good players and make a super family over and over again. You played with the hand you were dealt and you took the time to teach and new players and inexperienced ones because you knew you were gonna be stuck with those same guys 4-5 rounds, so to compete you had to make them good. I dunno just some suggestions.

Well if you want randoming you can do PW, thats where i am atm!

But my problem isnt the community, every round i find new friends that i really hit it off with, but not even that can keep me interested

I tried to change milky way this round, but my ideas and suggestions fell on deaf ears. All we can change is fam size, drafts, starting resources, the galaxy layout and thats about it. The major problem is we dont have a developer. Stefan doesnt seem to care anymore and without a programmer to change thing up we are basicly stuck with the same crap round after round....however...

Im currently working on a storyline galaxy. Im working out a system to keep track of certain accomplishments within the game. Its basicly an experience point system. The tricky part is keeping track of it fairly and accurately. This galaxy would be an ongoing storyline and the XP you earned from the previous round would carry over and translate into more starting resources for yourself or your family the following round. before i put alot of time into this i need to know if there is an interest for it.

We need suggestions and feedback from the community if we are to change this game a bit....well...at least within the parameters of what a mod can change. At least for now.

we need people like this...people who have played this game and saw how it translated over the years...and these bunch of dedicated people to try and get things going again...attract new blood...

but the problem will be on stefan...whether hes willing to put in the time and effort to change e game

well...what i forsee is how do you account for players who arent that good but gets jumped for EOR...or those people who have actually played a long time in the game but jsut took a break for a round or lets say decided to play in a small fam for a relaxed round...

totally agree with it. I was new and i stayed (now in my 4th or 5th round), but only because i had A LOT of people giving me advice and telling me how to play and cuz i always landed in good/fun fams. I started playing this game as one in a group of 4 friends, which has now been reduced to 2 (due to people being asses to 2 of them and them landing in sucky fams all the time, i assume).
Virgo sounds good to teach people how to play but boring as well, as AD was in my opinion. :\.

i'll go with noir on this one ... for many of us its not about the joy of finding new ways to do things anymore. Add to that that almost everyone with serious experience has allready won a couple rounds, you also lose motivation ... you know you can win, just depends on how active rl allows you to be and what fam you end up in. So you dont have to prove anything anymore, its more like a race not to get beaten too hard than to actually win. Anyways, several new races, a few new units and some more spells/ops would really help out to mix things up again.

When speaking your mind, it is of utmost importance to keep using it !
