The problem is giving any pity to begin with.  This is the reason you do not, b/c when you give an enemy a chance to breath, they will use it to hit you back.  Burn and pillage, and make people quit for all I care... giving people opportunities to break naps just makes no sense.

Depends upon how many angry bitter people you happen to play that round.  This is the 2nd or 3rd time in my experience this type of thing has happened, which is why I usually opt for utter destruction and why I've been a big proponent of in-game signed naps that when cancelled activate a tick timer... of course I know that is out of the Mod's hands and dependent upon a programmer, but 90% of the anger and frustration each round comes from nap breaking, and resolving it would resolve a lot of the problems.
