I am confident in England. They're going to do it. All the world cup ghosts are lined up Germany, Argentina, Success. It's time to knock them over one by one!

btw, previous meetings between England and Germany: England 12-12 Germany plus three draws (with two of the Germany victories being on penalties)

And in the last five meetings England are 3-2 up, including a 5-1 win in Munich.

Both teams are evenly matched in recent times even though Germany have historically won more competitions than England. It's time to start putting that right! England are going to come good, Rooney hat trick!

Slovakia beat Italy
and yes Ghana beat USA

Seems to be the World Cup of the underdog!

England are only 'underdogs' because of poor performances against  Algeria and USA. On paper both sides are really quite even, you don't suddenly become a bad team after two matches. Be more confident, this is not at all comparable to Slovakia Vs Italy. England are going to come out of their shells and give Germany a game, I'm confident!

Also, give Serbia credit, they are quite a good team. And I'm not sure Ghana Vs USA was that much of a surprise either, Ghana have some good players and I would have said the two teams were quite evenly matched before the game (don't pay attention to world rankings, we all know they mean nothing!)

France sucked... been sucking since the last european cup.
Italy sucked.
Ghana was no underdog, i think a lot of people expected ghana to win since all the USA has is Donovan and a decent goalie and Ghana actually has a decent team.

EDIT: and i think a lot of the bad play of the better teams can be contributed to the bad fields, which prevent fast play.

Well so far its a good game, cannot believe that the ref has missed Englands goal though, if we go out 3-1 I still think the game would have been hell of alot different if the ref had spotted it (like everyone else did)

Still fair play to Germany, their attack looks more dangerous, our defence is shocking.

I feel our team is still better then Germany. That said in football results speak louder then words, England fans will cry foul about the goal (as starting second half 2-2 the game would have been different)

I seem to recall Germany dropped half a team and fired the manager after England beat them 5-1 I think we should take a leaf out of their book.

This is frankly shocking, no disrespect to the smaller teams but this is a result i would expect for Germany against a shit footballing nation - the fact we are not only losing but being humiliated in a game we were faves for is appalling.

Capello promised the final - maybe we shouldnt have rushed forward with new contract negotiations....

umm.... i dont think anyone had england as favorites... sure, people gave england a chance, and some fanboys were thinking england would win... but england definitely were not favorites in this match, not after how they have played in the group stage... and yes, 2 bad games doesnt mean the team is bad, but 2 bad games with only a 1-0 win against slovenia between the horrible games and their game against germany, and chances are they still arent playing at the level they would need to, to beat germany...

Germany was the stronger team after they changed playing styles to not-German-style and England had been playing pretty bad in the WC up and till that last match (proof: they finished 2nd in a group with the USA, Algeria and Slovenia. lmao).

still a very sad thing tho, refs haven't been performing too well on this world cup sad look at how the USA was cheated out twice.

I'm pretty embarrassed to be English right now!

Avo, I just expected England to up their game and play like they can do. On paper England and Germany are still pretty evenly matched sides, England just had a complete shocker, as they have done all through the World Cup.

I just don't understand how the England defending was so bad. Germany just strolled through without even doing anything special. If England played half as well they can then none of those should have been goals for Germany. If you defend that badly then you can't have any complaints, it was all their own fault!

The first half was amazing to watch though, really exciting game. It was a shame that the goal was disallowed (not that it mattered in the end!) because it was a really great game and at half time it looked like it could go either way (even with the goal disallowed). England's defending was just abysmal though and I can't believe they can concede goals from goal kicks, their own attacking free kick and two other far far too easy goals where Germany just strolled through. Germany had other chances too where the England defenders just invited them to walk straight through them. I don't have a clue what was going on, it was pathetic.

Up until when the 3rd and 4th goals went in for Germany it was a really exciting game though.

I'm really disappointed in England. I just know that they can do so much better and while I don't think they were ever favourites for the tournament based on ability they should definitely be expected to get to the Quarter or Semi final stage. The fact is they struggled out of a weak group and then totally failed just now. Absolute rubbish.
